Ballard Power Pitches Energy-as-a-Service Growth Story While Susquehanna Trims Its Target
Published on 10/26/2026 at 15:52 | Editorial boerse-global.deBallard Power used a Wednesday update to showcase how its GeoPura subsidiary keeps landing repeat clean-power assignments at major UK events, pairing that operational narrative with a capital plan and margin roadmap that now sit alongside a more cautious analyst view.
GeoPura's hydrogen power units, built around Ballard fuel cells, supplied electricity at the Boomtown Festival — including a stage with capacity for 20,000 people — as well as the Edinburgh Summer Sessions, the Solheim Cup and the Genesis Scottish Open during the summer of 2026. Ballard framed the deployments as proof of a repeatable business model rather than one-off bookings, and said it sees room to extend its managed hydrogen supply into North America and other markets, with Europe also flagged as a potential expansion region.
The pitch rests on what GeoPura calls "Energy-as-a-Service." That package bundles the hardware itself with hydrogen delivery, transport and storage, plus on-site operational support — equipment, fuel logistics and hands-on servicing sold as a single offering.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Ballard Power?
Fleet Build-Out Tied to Asset-Backed Funding
To scale the fleet of Hydrogen Power Units behind those events, Ballard plans to spend between $80 million and $120 million. Financing is expected to come through secured structures, with the company anticipating a loan-to-value ratio above 80% against the pledged assets.
Growth targets unveiled at the Ballard Forum round out the plan. Management is aiming for 30% annual revenue growth across the next two fiscal years, a gross margin above 20% in 2027 rising to 25% the following year, and adjusted EBITDA profitability by the end of 2027 that holds through the whole of fiscal 2028.
A Cooler Note From the Sell Side
Not every data point in the current picture points the same direction. Susquehanna cut its price target on Ballard to $2 from $3 on October 14, according to media reports, while keeping its rating at "Neutral." The revision came as part of a broader rework of estimates and targets across the alternative energy space ahead of quarterly reporting.
Investors will get their next hard look at the numbers on November 16, 2026, when Ballard holds a conference call to discuss its third-quarter results.
