Bayer's Legal Overhang and Pipeline Wins Sit on Opposite Sides of the November 3 Ledger

Bayer investors are holding two very different kinds of uncertainty heading into the company's third-quarter report, and neither one will be resolved by the numbers alone. On one side sits a $7.25 billion Roundup settlement offer that has yet to win approval, flagged in an October 14 media report as a lingering risk factor. On the other, a pair of clinical readouts from the pharma division that landed with some force this month.

The legal question mark is the older of the two stories. The settlement proposal remains unsigned by the relevant authorities, meaning the litigation overhang that has weighed on the shares for years is still, technically, unresolved. That matters for how the market prices Bayer's equity, even as the operating business keeps generating data.

JPMorgan Holds Its Ground

JPMorgan reaffirmed an Overweight rating on Bayer on October 16, keeping a price target of 61 euros. The call came ahead of the quarterly figures and carried no upgrade to the target and no change in rating. Bayer shares closed Friday at €43.92, leaving a wide gap between the market price and the bank's valuation.

The note follows an October 13 report pointing to trimmed analyst estimates for the group. According to that report, the cuts stem from a timing shift in agricultural earnings rather than any disappearance of those profits — a distinction the report makes explicitly. No rating change accompanied that revision either.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Bayer?

Darolutamid's Strong Showing

In prostate cancer, an interim analysis of the Phase III DASL-HiCaP trial showed darolutamid, combined with androgen deprivation therapy and radiotherapy, cut the risk of metastases or death by 58% versus placebo. The study enrolled patients with high recurrence risk. Metastasis-free survival at four years came in at 95%, against 88% for the placebo arm.

One caveat deserves emphasis: darolutamid is not yet approved for this treatment setting. The results therefore reflect use outside currently authorized indications, and any path to the market runs through regulators rather than through the data alone.

Finerenon Data Across the Kidney Portfolio

Bayer also released new analyses from the Phase III FIND-CKD study. In patient groups with chronic kidney disease but without diabetes, finerenon showed consistent effects on reducing UPCR and UACR, along with a slowing of kidney function loss, according to the company. The data were presented at ASN Kidney Week 2026.

Separately, Bayer published a study on the competitiveness of agriculture in the European Union and the United Kingdom. Its finding: production growth in European arable farming trails that of key agricultural markets. The research puts the focus squarely on farm competitiveness across both regions examined.

What November 3 Will and Won't Answer

The next scheduled disclosure is the third-quarter 2026 report on November 3, with Bayer set to publish at 07:30 CET and hold its quarterly conference call at 14:00 CET the same day. The release covers both the agriculture and pharmaceuticals businesses.

What that report cannot do is settle the Roundup settlement question or convert darolutamid's DASL-HiCaP data into an approved label. Those remain separate processes running on separate clocks — which is precisely why the stock trades where it does, well below JPMorgan's 61-euro target, while the market waits to see whether the litigation risk finally clears and the pipeline converts into revenue.
