Bayer's Missouri Jury Verdict Gives JPMorgan Fresh Grounds for Its 61-Euro Call
Published on 11/01/2026 at 22:30 | Editorial boerse-global.deA unanimous Missouri jury verdict in Monsanto's favour has handed Bayer more than a one-day share price bounce — it has given the embattled conglomerate a stronger hand in the Roundup settlement talks that have yet to conclude. JPMorgan, for its part, is treating the win as another building block in containing the glyphosate litigation rather than a reason to change its mind.
The stock finished Friday up 5.1%, a move Reuters attributed squarely to the courtroom outcome. JPMorgan analyst Richard Vosser had flagged ahead of time that he expected a positive share price reaction to the procedural victory, and the US investment bank went on to reaffirm its "Overweight" rating and 61-euro price target. That confirmation, reported in the media, was just that — a restatement of an existing view, not an upgrade.
What the Jury Actually Decided
The case in Missouri was the first Roundup trial to be heard since the US Supreme Court's landmark ruling in June, which is why the market read the verdict as an early signal on how the remaining claims might fare. According to Bayer, the jury ruled unanimously for Monsanto. Three plaintiffs had blamed their cancer diagnoses on Roundup, and the jurors rejected their claims of design defects, fraud and negligence.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Bayer?
With that verdict in hand, attention swings back to the outstanding global settlement of the Roundup claims. Media reports suggest the trial win bolsters Bayer's negotiating position in those talks, though no decision on a comprehensive deal has been reached.
The Pipeline Is Moving Too
Legal matters are only part of the story. Roughly a week before the verdict, Bayer reported positive interim results from the Phase III DASL-HiCaP study. In the trial, darolutamide — given on top of androgen deprivation therapy and radiotherapy — cut the risk of metastasis or death by 58% versus placebo with the same accompanying treatments. The data cover prostate cancer patients at high risk of recurrence and were presented at the ESMO congress.
In China, meanwhile, Asundexian has won marketing approval under the brand name Sunharbo for reducing stroke risk in adults following a non-cardioembolic ischaemic stroke or a high-risk TIA. Bayer describes the drug as the world's first approved factor XIa inhibitor.
The Date That Matters Next
Investors will get their next hard look at the numbers on 3 November, when Bayer publishes its third-quarter 2026 results. The release is scheduled for 07:30 CET, with an investor call and video conference set to begin at 14:00 CET the same day.
