Bayer's Missouri Jury Win Lifts the Stock as Investors Weigh an Unfinished Settlement
Published on 11/02/2026 at 03:50 | Editorial boerse-global.deBayer shares climbed 5.1% on Friday, closing at €50.32, after a Missouri jury handed Monsanto a unanimous victory in the first Roundup trial to be held since the US Supreme Court's ruling in the Durnell case. Both dpa-AFX and Reuters attributed the advance to the verdict, which rejected claims brought by three women against the Bayer subsidiary.
The case, filed as Theresa Aretino et al., saw the plaintiffs fail on their remaining allegations of product design defects, deception and negligence. According to Bayer, the claimants were unable to substantiate their case. The company announced the outcome on Friday.
What the verdict does not settle is the larger question hanging over the group: a possible collective settlement of the glyphosate litigation. Media reports suggest the trial win strengthens Bayer's hand in any such talks, but no decision has yet been taken.
JPMorgan, meanwhile, reaffirmed its "Overweight" rating and €61 price target on Friday, according to media reports. Analyst Richard Vosser described the courtroom success as a further step toward containing the glyphosate disputes. The note was a confirmation of the existing stance rather than an upgrade.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Bayer?
Away from the courtroom, Bayer's pharmaceutical pipeline has produced a run of news. Roughly a week ago, China granted accelerated approval to Asundexian — marketed there as Sunharbo — for reducing stroke risk in adults who have suffered a non-cardioembolic ischemic stroke or a high-risk transient ischemic attack. Bayer described the drug as the first factor XIa inhibitor approved anywhere in the world, and the first of its class available in China.
Positive interim results from the Phase III DASL-HiCaP study also landed about a week ago, presented at the ESMO congress. Darolutamide, added to androgen deprivation therapy and radiotherapy, cut the combined risk of metastases or death by 58% versus placebo with the same accompanying treatments in prostate cancer patients at high risk of recurrence.
On 22 October, Bayer reported further subgroup analyses from the Phase III FIND-CKD trial. In chronic kidney disease without diabetes, finerenone showed consistent effects versus placebo on UPCR, UACR and the decline in kidney function.
Bayer at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.
All of this feeds into the next scheduled catalyst: the third-quarter 2026 interim report, due on 3 November. Bayer will publish the statement at 07:30 CET, with an investor call set for 14:00 CET.
