Bayer investors had plenty to chew on last week, but the share price only responded once a courtroom in Missouri cleared the company's name. The stock finished Friday up 5.1%, a move Reuters tied to the Roundup verdict handed down roughly a week earlier in favor of Bayer subsidiary Monsanto.

That verdict saw a jury unanimously reject claims brought by three plaintiffs. The allegations covered product defects, fraud and negligence. Bayer framed the outcome as its first trial victory since the US Supreme Court's ruling, and Reuters reported that the case was examining the reach of that decision for further litigation.

Clinical data lands on two fronts

The legal win overshadowed a pair of study readouts that arrived within days of each other. On October 24, Bayer disclosed an interim analysis from the Phase III DASL-HiCaP trial. Darolutamid, given on top of androgen deprivation therapy and radiotherapy, cut the combined risk of metastases or death by 58% versus placebo. The trial enrolls prostate cancer patients at high risk of recurrence.

Four-year metastasis-free survival came in at 95% for the darolutamid combination, against 88% for placebo. Bayer was careful to label the figures as interim findings rather than a completed analysis — and noted that the drug is not approved for the treatment setting under investigation.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Bayer?

Two days earlier, on October 22, the company released further finerenone data. Subgroup analyses from the Phase III FIND-CKD study showed consistent effects on proteinuria and loss of kidney function in chronic kidney disease without diabetes. Among patients with IgAN, the protein-to-creatinine ratio fell 51% relative to placebo.

A Chinese green light for Asundexian

Rounding out the run of announcements, Asundexian secured marketing approval in China for lowering stroke risk in adults following a non-cardioembolic ischemic stroke or high-risk TIA. Bayer described it as the first factor XIa inhibitor available in the country.

The analyst view stays cautious

Jefferies analyst Michael Leuchten kept a "Hold" rating on Bayer on Friday with a price target of 46 euros. He called the court success encouraging but pointed to the pending judicial approval of the settlement in the glyphosate class action — a reminder that the legal overhang has not lifted.
