BioNTech has nudged up the bottom end of its 2026 revenue guidance, and the reason has little to do with selling anything. Milestone payments from the company's cancer-drug partnership with Bristol Myers Squibb pushed the floor from €1.6 billion to €1.7 billion, with the top of the range unchanged at €1.9 billion. The announcement came on Tuesday, a day before a clutch of analysts marked down their price targets while keeping their buy-equivalent ratings intact.

That split screen — firmer financial footing, softer valuation marks — captures where the German biotech stands. The company attributes a revenue decline since the start of the year chiefly to the expected drop in demand for its COVID-19 vaccines. In the third quarter of 2026, revenue came in at €1.3 billion, down from €1.5 billion in the same period a year earlier. Against that shrinking base, the oncology pipeline and the cheques its partners write carry more of the growth story than they used to.

A modest win in the clinic

The clinical headline of the week arrived on 26 October, when BioNTech and DualityBio reported that their Phase 3 DYNASTY-Breast02 study met its primary endpoint. The improvement in progression-free survival was statistically significant, though moderate in size. Overall survival data were not yet mature.

That combination — a met endpoint paired with a measured benefit — is what makes the readout a valuation exercise rather than a simple victory. Hitting the endpoint supports the programme's progress; the moderate magnitude of the gain caps how far that support can be stretched. A more bullish case would require the two companies to chart a convincing path forward from the data. Talks are under way on next steps and a possible Biologics License Application, or BLA.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying BioNTech?

Targets cut, convictions held

Analysts delivered their verdict on the Wednesday. Mohit Bansal of Wells Fargo, according to media reports, lowered his price target to $125 from $140 while keeping an "Overweight" rating. Terence Flynn of Morgan Stanley cut his to $106 from $114, also staying at "Overweight." Lower marks paired with continued positive calls point to graduated confidence rather than a change of heart — the friendly label matters less than the assumptions underpinning it.

The market, for its part, finished the week in a better mood: the stock added 2.3% on Friday. A single session says little about the longer-term case, which will be settled by operating progress rather than one day's trading.

Where the next catalysts sit

Two items now stand out as the nearest concrete tests. One is a decision on how to proceed with DYNASTY-Breast02, including the shape of any regulatory filing. The other is the regulatory green light for a planned combination study announced roughly two weeks ago with Gilead Sciences — the first global Phase 3 trial of BioNTech's pumitamig alongside sacituzumab govitecan in triple-negative breast cancer. That programme remains conditional on approval.

BioNTech at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

If milestone income keeps arriving and the pipeline keeps advancing, the case for building out the oncology business holds together. If development slows, the retreat in vaccine demand grows heavier as a drag. The bullish scenario is one in which partnership cash and clinical momentum reinforce each other; the skeptical one is a stretch in which the payments keep coming but the programmes open only limited additional upside, forcing longer-term growth assumptions to be scaled back.

For investors, the yardstick is the next hard piece of evidence. A credible continuation of the programmes would strengthen the growth thesis. Narrower prospects would mean lowering expectations for their eventual economic contribution — and that, more than any single price target, is what the coming months will decide.
