Brazilian Rare Earths has enlarged the declared resource at its Monte Alto project in Bahia, a move the company frames as groundwork for a staged, low-capital push into concentrate exports. The update, released today, does not by itself establish that the operation would be profitable — and that distinction is the one investors need to keep in view.

The indicated resource now stands at 3.5 million tonnes grading 10.7% total rare earth oxides, a 41% increase. That category sits at the heart of the announcement. It also accounts for 87% of the contained rare earth oxides, according to the company, meaning the bulk of the TREO in the estimate falls within the classification it is highlighting.

Across both indicated and inferred material, the total ultra-high-grade resource climbs 29% to 4.4 million tonnes at 9.9% TREO. The two figures describe different slices of the same estimate rather than separate project inventories.

One caveat accompanies the headline growth: the average grade eased slightly, because the tonnage captured expanded faster than the contained metal. A bigger resource, in other words, does not mean every attribute has improved.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Brazilian Rare Earths?

ERM prepared the estimate to JORC standards. Mineralisation remains open in all directions on the company's account, and ongoing extension drilling is meant to test further potential — which is not yet part of any secured production plan.

Export Route Comes Before the Refinery

The feasibility study, targeted for completion by the end of 2026, will examine a low-capital export operation that could start ahead of the Camaçari refinery. That is the stepwise development path Brazilian Rare Earths is pursuing. Selling concentrate remains a provisional route, subject to further work and permitting.

Crucially, today's update leaves the scoping study published in August untouched. It carries no new production target, so the larger ore body should not be read as a decision to expand output. The resource estimate and the production plan are separate matters.

Market Reaction and Earlier Milestones

The stock rose 8.3% on the news, having already been up 7.3% in pre-market trading. The share-price gain does not alter the preliminary nature of the planned export path.

Brazilian Rare Earths at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

On the processing side, Brazilian Rare Earths had already flagged operational progress in its quarterly report for the period ended 30 September 2026, published on 20 October. That included the first rare earth concentrate produced at Camaçari and secured co-financing for the second hydrometallurgical pilot stage.

Those advances complement today's resource news on the processing front. Attention now turns to how the resource base, the processing chain and the planned marketing route fit together. The feasibility study is the next announced checkpoint, and it must show whether the low-capital concentrate operation can actually be built. Until then, Monte Alto has moved forward on resource definition — without a fresh production target from the company.
