BYD Denies Driver-Assist Retreat While BlackRock Trims Stake and Profit Trails Forecasts
Published on 11/07/2026 at 14:51 | Editorial boerse-global.deBYD moved on two fronts this week, publicly rejecting speculation about its driver-assistance roadmap while a major institutional holder quietly reduced its position in the company's Hong Kong-listed shares.
The automaker said Wednesday that claims it had halted production of its God's Eye C system were unfounded, and dismissed suggestions that its B and C assistance systems were being switched to a different solution. Development of the systems remains in-house, according to BYD, and software updates for its intelligent driving features are continuing. The denial, carried in media reports, addressed both the future of the systems and the technical responsibility for building them.
Separately, the company issued a warning about fraudulent recall notices circulating under its name. The senders cited false claims about warranties expiring, BYD said. Genuine recall communications, it stressed, are issued through authorized dealers.
BlackRock Lowers Long Position
BlackRock disclosed an off-exchange sale of BYD H-shares on Tuesday, with media reports putting the reported long position at 6.95%, down from 7.17%. The stake change was filed with the Hong Kong stock exchange. In its own monthly securities filing dated November 1, BYD reported no change in the number of issued H- and A-shares for October.

Quarterly Earnings Fall Short
The company's October 29 results showed third-quarter 2026 net profit climbing 28% year on year to RMB 10.02 billion — a gain that nonetheless landed below broker expectations compiled by Reuters, which had ranged from RMB 11.4 billion to RMB 12.95 billion. Revenue for the quarter rose 13.6% to RMB 221.49 billion.
The picture darkens over the longer stretch. Net profit for the first nine months of 2026 slipped 4.2% to RMB 22.34 billion, on revenue of RMB 566.30 billion. Competition at home weighed on the quarter, with domestic sales falling roughly 12% amid a crowded market, according to Reuters.
Sentiment after the release was further dented by heavier dealer discounts on older models, worries over proposed EU restrictions on Chinese hybrid imports, and a reduced Chinese export tax rebate for electric vehicles, media reports said.

On the innovation front, executive vice president He Zhiqi said on November 1 that BYD plowed RMB 36.3 billion into research and development during the first nine months of 2026. The company also signed a strategic cooperation agreement with vivo this week covering AI-driven mobility, spanning cross-device integration and the linking of smartphones and vehicles — a tie-up aimed at connecting the two device ecosystems and applying artificial intelligence to the mobility space.
