Casablanca's Municipal Abattoirs Cut Lost Days from 694 to 231 After Winning ISO 45001 Certification

Moroccan outlet lematin.ma reported the award on 23 October 2026, describing it as recognition that the operator has put a full safety and health management system in place.
Barriers, Repairs and a 208,829-Dirham Safety Budget
Meeting the standard's requirements meant a package of practical changes on site. The company fitted protective barriers, carried out a range of repair work, installed safety equipment and issued personal protective equipment to staff. It also ran evacuation drills and trained first-aiders.
Building a safety management system that actually holds up starts with documenting risks properly — and that's where many employers leave a dangerous gap. On the protective equipment alone, Casablanca Prestations spent a net 208,829 dirham.
The results showed up in the operator's performance figures. Compliance with regulatory requirements reached 95.1 per cent. As of August, 90.4 per cent of internal safety inspections had been carried out. Every one of the nine decisions taken by the workplace hygiene committee was fully implemented.
Lost working time fell sharply as a result. Days lost to workplace accidents dropped from 694 to 231, while the measured accident severity rate came down from 1.20 to 0.40.
A Standard With Global Reach
ISO 45001 is designed to prevent work-related injury and illness systematically and to provide safe workplaces. Organisations across very different sectors are turning to it: a simultaneous example comes from South Korea.
There, the Korea SMEs and Startups Certification Institute announced certification of the Gyeongnam Robot Land Foundation to ISO 45001. At a ceremony in the foundation's conference room on 21 October 2026, KOSRE director Eom Jin-yeop handed the certificate and plaque to foundation director Park Tae-hoon.
The foundation built structured risk assessments, participatory training for employees and stronger safety monitoring into the process. It further established regular inspections and a rapid-response system covering the organisation's sites and the facilities of the Gyeongnam Masan Robot Land amusement park.
Structured risk assessments, staff training and a system that protects both employees and visitors — that's the backbone of any credible safety management approach. A free Health & Safety Toolkit bundles the risk assessments, checklists and toolbox talks you need to meet your legal duties and cut accidents, with 37,000 UK businesses already using it. Alongside publishing an official safety and health policy, the South Korean foundation's management system explicitly extends to protecting park visitors. Park Tae-hoon set the avoidance of all workplace accidents as the goal.
