CATL shares fell 3.7% on Tuesday, caught in a broad retreat from technology names that swept through Hong Kong and mainland Chinese exchanges. The trigger, according to media reports and Associated Press coverage, was Wall Street's AI-driven selloff, with investors fretting that the outcome of the US midterm elections could usher in tighter rules on artificial intelligence and slow the buildout of data centers.

The pullback says little about CATL itself, but the battery maker's own news flow gave investors plenty to weigh — a pair of lowered price targets from JPMorgan, fresh market-share data, and a string of storage agreements stretching from Europe to Australia.

JPMorgan Cuts Both Lines

The US bank trimmed its target on CATL's A-shares to RMB 300 from RMB 310, and lowered its H-share objective to HKD 420 from HKD 440. Even so, the company's expansion beyond China continues to gather pace. Figures from SNE Research cited in media reports show CATL's battery installations outside its home market reached 143.7 GWh between January and September 2026, a gain of 46.7% year on year. Market share climbed to 33.7% from 28.6%.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying CATL?

Europe: Storage Pacts, No Firm Orders Yet

On the European storage front, Octopus Energy announced a memorandum of understanding with CATL and its subsidiary Ampace on Tuesday. The partners will explore smart home storage solutions for European markets, including applications built around sodium-ion batteries. The arrangement is described as open-ended cooperation rather than a binding supply contract.

That followed a separate MOU signed on 27 October between CATL and INTILION. Under the plan, the companies intend to deploy CATL energy storage systems totaling 3 GWh over five years, targeting Germany, Switzerland, Austria and other countries.

Australia: TENER+ Makes Its Debut

CATL's most concrete product push came on 29 October, when it introduced its TENER+ energy storage system at All Energy Australia. The unit carries a capacity of 9 MWh. At the same event, the company signed memoranda with Hitachi Energy, EPEC Group and UNSW Sydney covering the execution of large battery projects and their grid connections in Australia. Demand for large-scale grid storage in the country is growing, according to media reports, giving the agreements a plausible commercial backdrop — provided the partners can turn intent into delivered projects.

Employee Ownership Sets a Benchmark

Alongside the expansion, CATL is pressing ahead with an employee participation scheme. Reserved shares were priced at RMB 158.42 apiece. The program is a sound instrument as long as it ties participants' interests to durable corporate value, which matters for a company balancing new products and partners against a strained margin. Disappointing quarterly results and tax-related margin pressure have already weighed on sentiment, making execution — not the count of new agreements — the yardstick investors should apply. The Australian deals will earn their worth only if they become economically viable projects, and the employee scheme only if it reinforces that focus on results.
