DeFi Technologies is moving its Valour subsidiary beyond the plain-vanilla exchange-traded product business, unveiling a platform that will house actively managed digital-asset strategies. The new vehicle, Valour Funds SPC, was announced on Monday and marks the company's first real step into hedge-fund-style mandates.

The debut product under that umbrella is the Smart Crypto Fund SP, aimed squarely at professional and qualified investors rather than the retail crowd that has traditionally bought Valour's listed certificates. Portfolio management has been handed to Swiss asset manager Neuronomics AG, in which DeFi Technologies holds a minority stake. The FINMA-supervised partner runs the allocation across liquid digital assets entirely through algorithms.

Algorithms Set the Risk Budget

Rather than holding a static basket of tokens, the fund adjusts exposure dynamically. A set of complementary AI models continuously weighs market prices, trading volumes and other indicators across short- and medium-term horizons, deciding on its own when to build risk or pull back from the market.

Dr. Michael Kometer, founder and CEO of Neuronomics, says the technology separates meaningful market signals from statistical noise. Fixed risk-budget parameters and per-asset limits are designed to prevent the portfolio from becoming too concentrated, while order execution runs automatically based on liquidity and estimated transaction costs.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying DeFi Technologies?

The structure itself, domiciled in the Cayman Islands, keeps portfolio management walled off from custody, banking and auditing. DeFi Technologies' in-house trading venue, Stillman Digital, is also wired into the execution stack.

From 100-Plus ETPs to Active Mandates

For the issuer, the launch is a deliberate widening of the business model. Valour built its name on exchange-traded products and now covers a catalogue of more than 100 crypto ETPs. Chairman Johan Wattenström framed the move as an effort to extend the offering beyond listed products into the active hedge fund segment.

That pivot comes against a demanding backdrop for crypto investment products. In its quarterly report roughly a month ago, the company said average assets under management in the second quarter of 2026 reached $471.5 million, with AuM at quarter-end of $397.2 million. Even so, Valour booked net inflows of $22.8 million during the period — a sign that institutional demand held up even as falling digital-asset prices weighed on the overall portfolio value. Management's stated aim is to build AuM on a footing less dependent on pure market price swings.

The revenue line, however, felt the squeeze. Total income came in at $7.8 million in Q2 2026, down from $11.2 million in the first quarter. Management attributed the decline to the lower asset base as well as unfavourable mark-to-market adjustments.

A Cash Cushion to Fund the Build-Out

Offsetting the earnings hit is a substantial liquidity position. Roughly a month ago, DeFi Technologies reported $119.8 million in cash and cash equivalents. To squeeze more yield out of those reserves, it also put $20 million into MicroStrategy stretch preferred shares.

DeFi Technologies at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

That war chest gives the company room to bankroll new growth initiatives such as Valour Funds SPC and to keep building out its platform in an increasingly crowded field of digital-asset managers.

Market Reaction and a Nasdaq Deadline

Trading has been choppy around the news. The stock changed hands at EUR 0.5050 on Monday, up 0.6% on the day, extending a weekly gain of 16%. In the prior session it closed at EUR 0.5020, a decline of 1.3%, though that still left it 12% above its 50-day moving average of EUR 0.4481.

Alongside the operational expansion, DeFi Technologies is tending to regulatory housekeeping. It secured a 180-day extension to regain full compliance with the Nasdaq's minimum price requirements. The new institutional fund is meant to open up additional revenue streams that are less exposed to the swings of the retail segment.
