Deutsche Bank's stock slipped 2.6% yesterday, but the pullback had little to do with the lender's own performance. A global tech selloff and weak US markets weighed on sentiment, while media reports pointed to mounting concerns over the economic outlook and risks in bond markets that pressed on European bank shares more broadly. The decline thus unfolded against a backdrop of sector-wide and market-wide strain rather than company-specific trouble.

UBS Lifts Target, RBC Follows Suit

On the same day, UBS raised its price target on Deutsche Bank from EUR 37 to EUR 38 while reaffirming its buy rating. Analyst Mate Nemes said the path toward a 13% return on tangible equity by 2028 is becoming clearer.

The move came just a day after RBC lifted its own target from EUR 36 to EUR 40 following the quarterly figures, sticking with its view that the shares should outperform. Both houses paired their higher targets with unchanged positive recommendations. Several other analyst teams also reiterated their bullish calls on Wednesday, with targets or fair values ranging between EUR 36 and EUR 41.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Deutsche Bank?

Third Straight Record Quarter

The upgrades rest on a strong set of numbers. On Wednesday, Deutsche Bank reported a net profit of EUR 1.9 billion for the third quarter of 2026, alongside a pre-tax profit of EUR 2.6 billion — eight percent above the prior-year quarter and, according to the company, a third consecutive quarter of record earnings. Diluted earnings per share rose six percent to EUR 0.94. Over the first nine months of 2026, the bank booked a net profit of EUR 5.9 billion.

Not every line item moved in the right direction. Reuters reported that revenues in the fixed-income and currencies business fell three percent.

ECB Trims Capital Demand

Adding to the positive backdrop, Deutsche Bank disclosed on Tuesday that the ECB has set its Pillar 2 capital requirement at 2.60% starting January 1, 2027 — 25 basis points below the 2026 level. The supplementary leverage ratio requirement, known as the P2R-LR, stays at ten basis points.

Investors will get their next full look at the lender's trajectory on January 28, 2027, when Deutsche Bank releases preliminary annual results and hosts its annual media conference along with an investor and analyst call.
