Deutsche Bank's AI Lending Push and Zurich Deal Set Stage for October 28 Earnings Test
Published on 10/27/2026 at 16:51 | Editorial boerse-global.deDeutsche Bank has trimmed decision times on certain smaller corporate loans from weeks to minutes using artificial intelligence, Reuters reported yesterday, citing the lender. The same application has compressed processing on individual credits to multinational groups from months down to weeks. The tool went live in the summer, and the bank plans more than EUR 2.5 billion in additional technology spending between 2026 and 2028. Those faster turnarounds apply to specific loan segments, not the loan book as a whole.
Separately, the bank moved early to extend its distribution partnership with Zurich Gruppe Deutschland, which will now run through the end of 2042. The tie-up keeps Zurich life, risk and property insurance alongside DWS fund solutions on Deutsche Bank's shelves, and Zurich and DWS will likewise continue their cooperation over the long term. No financial terms were disclosed. The arrangement secures planning certainty in the private-client business and gives Zurich lasting access to Deutsche Bank and Postbank retail customers, though it carries no quantifiable earnings effect of its own.
Jefferies Keeps Hold, Sees 12% Return on Equity by 2028
Jefferies weighed in on the medium-term profitability picture today, keeping its "Hold" rating and its EUR 33 price target, according to media reports. Analyst Joseph Dickerson wrote that Deutsche Bank is on track to reach a return on equity of roughly 12% by 2028.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Deutsche Bank?
Attention now turns to the third-quarter 2026 results, due October 28, with an investor and analyst call scheduled the same day. Dow Jones forecasts revenue of EUR 8.208 billion, up 2% from the year-earlier quarter. Higher income alone, however, is not expected to offset a profit decline: net income after tax is projected at EUR 1.699 billion, 7% below the prior-year figure, with loan loss provisions seen at EUR 488 million.
Provisioning is where the quality question bites. Commercial real estate exposures and a corporate credit default in Asia are the focal points, and MarketWatch notes that investors are also watching the bank's involvement in private credit financing for data centers. UBS expects solid revenue, arguing that weaker bond and currency trading against last year's record quarter could be offset elsewhere; Dow Jones sees a 4% decline in that business.
Guidance and the 2028 Growth Path
Beyond the quarter, the outlook matters. Deutsche Bank is expected to confirm its 2026 revenue target of around EUR 33 billion — an expectation, not a confirmed figure. By 2028 the bank is aiming for revenue above EUR 37 billion, a higher return on tangible equity and a lower cost-income ratio. Whether management's comments on credit risk and revenue sources support that growth path will be the real measure on the day.
