Deutsche Bank's Strong Quarter Meets a Choppy Trading Day
Published on 10/30/2026 at 16:11 | Editorial boerse-global.deDeutsche Bank shares slipped 2.6% to €30.23 on Wednesday, caught in a broad market downdraft rather than any company-specific disappointment. Higher oil prices and weak overnight leads from the US and Asia weighed on German equities, with dpa-AFX reporting that European bourses were largely under pressure as global technology stocks saw fresh selling. Investors were simultaneously working through a heavy slate of quarterly reports from European lenders.
The pullback came despite a set of third-quarter figures that beat expectations and a fresh round of bullish analyst revisions.
Earnings Beat as Revenues Climb
For the third quarter of 2026, Deutsche Bank lifted revenues 4% to €8.3 billion. Profit after tax reached €1.9 billion, while pre-tax profit came in at €2.6 billion — an 8% increase on the same period a year earlier. Diluted earnings per share for the quarter stood at €0.94.
The bottom line also edged higher on a shareholder-attributable basis: net profit attributable to shareholders rose to €1.59 billion from €1.56 billion in the prior-year quarter, according to Reuters.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Deutsche Bank?
Across the first nine months of 2026, the bank booked a record post-tax profit of €5.9 billion. Management said it is on track to meet its goals for the year and, per Reuters, has guided toward revenue exceeding €33 billion for full-year 2026.
The results landed alongside similarly strong showings from BNP Paribas, Standard Chartered and Santander, a cluster of upside surprises that Reuters said has lifted sentiment toward European banks more broadly.
RBC and JPMorgan Lift Their Targets
Analysts responded warmly. RBC Capital Markets raised its price target on the stock to €40 from €36 on Wednesday while reaffirming its "Outperform" rating, with analyst Anke Reingen pointing to the consistent execution of the bank's strategic plan. JPMorgan, meanwhile, kept its "Overweight" rating and €41 target; analyst Kian Abouhossein praised the quarter and singled out the successful turnaround in the corporate banking division. Other analysts also confirmed their assessments the same day, according to media reports.

Capital Relief Kicks In From January
Adding to the positive backdrop, Deutsche Bank disclosed on Tuesday that regulators had eased its capital requirements. The ECB cut the pillar 2 SREP requirement for 2027 to 2.60%, 25 basis points below the current year's level. As a result, the bank's CET1 capital requirement will fall by roughly 14 basis points starting January 1, 2027. The leverage ratio requirement, by contrast, stays put at 10 basis points.
The bank held a conference call for bond investors on Tuesday to walk through the third-quarter results.
