Deutsche Telekom: A Sector-Driven Rebound, Two Divergent Analyst Calls, and a Satellite Bid Still Under Review
Published on 10/23/2026 at 08:11 | Editorial boerse-global.deDeutsche Telekom shares climbed 2.6% today, recovering ground lost in the previous session when the stock was dragged down by US rival AT&T. The pressure came from the wider sector rather than from any announcement by the Bonn-based carrier itself — a distinction that matters when reading the rebound.
Media reports indicated that AT&T fell short of market expectations on contract customer additions, and even a raised full-year profit forecast failed to soften the negative reaction. Those disappointing subscriber figures explain yesterday's weakness; they do not account for today's advance. Nor do they imply any comparable operational stumble at Deutsche Telekom.
Two Dates on the Calendar
Before any of that, investors have two separate reporting events to work through. T-Mobile US, the group's American subsidiary, reports on 28 October 2026. Deutsche Telekom then publishes its own third-quarter figures on 5 November 2026. The US release is not a substitute for the parent company's results, and neither should the recent run of technical announcements be mistaken for a business report — they describe development milestones and planned applications, not contributions already booked.
Barclays Trims Its Target, JPMorgan Raises Its Sights
Analysts are pulling in different directions. Barclays cut its price target on Tuesday to EUR 32 from EUR 35 while keeping an "Overweight" rating, flagging satellite technology and agentic AI as risks to the telecom sector. The lower marker therefore sits alongside a recommendation that remains positive — a more cautious read on competition, not a retreat from the stock.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Deutsche Telekom?
JPMorgan, by contrast, held Deutsche Telekom at "Overweight" with a EUR 38 target, according to dpa-AFX Analyst, and lifted its medium-term estimates at the same time. The US bank also raised its assumptions on share buybacks — an analyst projection, not a fresh repurchase commitment from the company. Taken together, the two notes show sector risk and expectations for capital returns running side by side.
Satellites: Threat and Opportunity in One
That satellite question cuts both ways for Deutsche Telekom. According to company statements, the carrier signed a letter of intent on Monday alongside Orange, Telefónica and Vodafone to examine a joint bid for European frequencies for satellite-based mobile services, with direct connections between satellites and ordinary handsets among the goals. A satellite partner has yet to be chosen. The arrangement is a review, not a submitted bid or a confirmed rollout — and media reports suggest the move is also aimed at countering Starlink's entry or expansion in the segment.
Lab Numbers, Field Tests and a Health-Data Pact
On the technology front, Deutsche Telekom reported initial laboratory measurements on Wednesday, alongside Nokia and NVIDIA, for AI-driven mobile networks known as AI-RAN. An AI-based channel estimation method lifted uplink throughput by 10% to 15%. A field trial is the planned next step. The result's weight is technical for now: the gain was measured in the lab, and successful operation in a live network cannot yet be inferred from it.
Deutsche Telekom at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.
Separately, T-Systems and Apheris announced a collaboration on Tuesday aimed at making clinical data usable securely and sovereignly for medical research. Here too the focus is a concrete project, not a quantified earnings effect.
The picture ahead of the numbers is therefore sharply bounded. Deutsche Telekom is working on additional technical capabilities, and the announced results releases remain the decisive input for any financial assessment. Whether these projects translate into economic progress is a question the announcements so far leave open.
