Deutsche Telekom spent the past week rolling out a string of operational moves across sports content, travel connectivity and industrial networking — a burst of activity that did little to shift the mood on the trading floor, where one prominent research house turned more guarded on the stock.

The DAX-listed group closed Friday's session at EUR 27.09, a modest gain of 0.5% on the day. That leaves the shares 5.5% below their 200-day moving average of EUR 28.66, and values the company at EUR 128.32 billion.

MagentaSport Lands Basketball Champions League

The Bonn-based carrier secured exclusive rights to the Basketball Champions League for its MagentaSport platform. Starting with the 2026/27 season on 6 October, every game involving the four German clubs will be shown live and exclusively, with full coverage of all remaining fixtures from the quarter-final stage onward. Telekom declined to disclose the financial terms of the agreement.

The deal slots into a broader push to deepen the content and platform side of the business. Earlier in the week, the company integrated the HBO Max streaming service into MagentaTV, letting subscribers book the offering directly through the platform. Travelers got a new option on Monday as well, with the launch of T-Travel — an eSIM-based service bundling digital data packages for more than 200 destinations, usable regardless of the customer's existing network provider.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Deutsche Telekom?

Smaller Stores, Flexible Formats

On the distribution side, Telekom confirmed on Thursday that it will open 50 new physical sales locations across Germany by the 2027 financial year. The rollout leans toward compact outlets and pop-up formats, part of an effort to steer in-person customer contact more precisely and to link face-to-face advice with the company's digital service channels. Management is responding to a shift in how consumers shop and seek guidance.

Iridium Deal Extends IoT Coverage Beyond Terrestrial Networks

Technical partnerships are expanding in parallel. Thursday also brought confirmation that Iridium's satellite network has been folded into Telekom's roaming solution for the Internet of Things, allowing compatible devices to use multi-orbit radio links. The integration, paired with a global roaming agreement, makes the partner's low-earth-orbit constellation commercially available to Telekom's IoT customers, provided they run compatible narrowband hardware. The upshot: uninterrupted data transmission even well outside conventional mobile coverage.

Oktoberfest Data Traffic Jumps 18%

Existing network capacity is already being tested by large-scale events. Telekom reported 57.7 terabytes of data carried across the Theresienwiese during the opening weekend of the Munich Oktoberfest, an 18% increase over the same period a year earlier. More than half of that traffic ran over the 5G standard.

Bernstein Steps Back

Not everything pointed in the same direction. According to media reports, Bernstein downgraded Deutsche Telekom from "Outperform" to "Market-Perform," while cutting its price target sharply from EUR 37 to EUR 28.10. Investors appeared largely unmoved: the stock held its ground through Friday's Xetra close, finishing at EUR 27.09 with that 0.5% daily advance.
