Evotec's Earnings Beat Doesn't Cancel the Loss Guidance — RBC's Halved Target Is the Other Half of the Story
Published on 11/04/2026 at 18:31 | Editorial boerse-global.deEvotec shares are up 2.5% today, but the advance sits alongside a valuation framework that has just been cut in half. RBC lowered its price target on the German biotech from 10 to 5 euros on Friday, according to media reports, while keeping its "Outperform" rating intact. Analyst Charles Weston pointed to heightened investment risk and an adjustment to the valuation model made ahead of the final figures.
The dual signal is easy to misread in either direction. A retained Outperform is not a clean endorsement, and a halved target is not a sell call. RBC also placed the investment in its "Speculative Risk" category, flagging it as speculative and risk-bearing. Anyone reading only the rating, or only the target cut, is working with half the picture.
A beat that doesn't reach profitability
The operating backdrop explains why the target came down even as the recommendation held. On 13 October, Evotec guided for first-nine-month 2026 revenue of roughly EUR 465.0 million and a preliminary adjusted group EBITDA of about EUR ?42.8 million. Both figures came in above market expectations, according to the company.
Beating expectations is not the same as turning a profit. Evotec still expects a negative adjusted group EBITDA for the full year, in the range of roughly EUR ?70 million to EUR ?105 million. The confirmed 2026 revenue outlook stands at approximately EUR 570 million to EUR 610 million — unchanged. The company did not raise its annual guidance on the back of the preliminary surprise.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Evotec?
That gap between a better-than-expected interim print and an untouched full-year forecast is the crux for investors. The improved nine-month figures and the confirmed outlook sit side by side; no higher annual projection follows from the beat alone. The preliminary nature of the numbers adds a further caveat.
November 5 is the next real test
Evotec has scheduled a business update for 5 November 2026, with a webcast and conference call starting at 14:00 CET. Management will present the first-nine-month results and walk through the course of business.
The final numbers matter less than the commentary around them — specifically, how Evotec reconciles the preliminary development with its confirmed annual outlook. No guidance change can be read into the announcement itself.
Evotec at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.
At EUR 2.93, the stock trades below RBC's reduced target, though that spread promises nothing about future performance. The explicit risk warning belongs with the positive recommendation rather than apart from it.
Separately, a reported voting-rights position concerns shareholder structure, not the operating business. It offers no read on Evotec's commercial trajectory and no explanation for today's share-price gain. Keeping the three threads distinct — the price move, RBC's more cautious valuation, and the upcoming company disclosure — is what prevents a good trading day from being mistaken for an improved business.
