Evotec's Nine-Month Beat Draws a Hold, Not an Upgrade

Evotec's preliminary nine-month figures came in ahead of market expectations — and left the company's full-year loss forecast exactly where it was. That combination, rather than the headline beat itself, is what investors now have to price.

The stock added 2.5% yesterday. The gain reflects relief at the interim numbers, not a re-rating of the business: the confirmed guidance still points to a loss on an adjusted basis for 2026.

What the numbers actually show

Roughly a week ago Evotec reported revenue of about €465.0 million for the first nine months of 2026, alongside an adjusted EBITDA of around ?€42.8 million. Both figures beat consensus.

The company was quick to point to the timing of consensus estimates as a key driver. That caveat matters. A different phasing of expected business development within the year can flatter an interim report without changing the outlook for the full twelve months — and Evotec left its guidance untouched.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Evotec?

For 2026 the group continues to expect revenue of around €570–610 million, or €595–635 million at constant currencies. Adjusted EBITDA is still guided at roughly ?€70 million to ?€105 million, or ?€60 million to ?€90 million at constant currencies.

Strip out the currency assumptions and the underlying picture is unchanged: management still projects an adjusted operating loss for the year. The better interim showing does not contradict that. It simply sets a higher bar for how the second half must be read.

Berenberg sees the beat and keeps its distance

On 16 October, Berenberg analyst Christian Ehmann left his rating at "Hold" and his price target at €3.60, according to media reports. The positive assessment of the preliminary results and the unchanged hold recommendation sit together comfortably — a strong interim print can deserve credit while a confirmed full-year loss range still argues for caution.

That stance is neither a fresh downgrade nor a new forecast. It signals that, after the nine-month data, Berenberg saw no reason to move off its prior view.

Evotec at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

November 5 is the next checkpoint

Evotec has scheduled publication of its full third-quarter and nine-month results for 5 November 2026. That report will be the first opportunity to read the preliminary figures in full context.

Until then, the distinction between beating expectations and turning a profit remains the one that counts. The interim numbers speak to a better-than-expected performance. They do not speak to a completed earnings turnaround — and that is the standard against which the next set of figures will be judged.
