FMC Corporation's stock climbed 33% on Friday, a day after the agricultural chemicals maker reported quarterly results that showed a sharp drop in revenue but also offered a fourth-quarter outlook that beat the market's muted expectations.

Investors appear to have taken the heavy charges in stride, according to media reports, viewing the hit largely as the planned cost of a deliberate overhaul of pricing and inventory practices in its distribution channel rather than as a sign of deeper trouble. Attention instead shifted to the guidance for the closing quarter and to preliminary earnings targets for 2027 and 2028.

Commercial Actions Weigh on the Quarter

The scale of the impact was laid out in Thursday's report. Revenue for the third quarter of 2026 came in at $106 million, down from $542 million in the same period a year earlier. FMC said the commercial measures reduced sales by roughly $639 million.

Adjusted EBITDA for the quarter was negative $559 million, with the same measures accounting for about $672 million of that drag. On a per-share basis, the company posted an adjusted loss of $4.41.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying FMC Corporation?

The restructuring was flagged about two weeks before the results. FMC announced it would revamp its North American pricing and rebate model and cut prices on selected higher-priced products that distributors keep in stock. Management argues these steps should speed the company's return to growth.

Guidance Offers Some Relief

For the fourth quarter of 2026, FMC projects revenue of between $1.04 billion and $1.14 billion, with adjusted EBITDA in a range of $210 million to $230 million. Adjusted earnings per diluted share are forecast at $0.56 to $0.70 — projections, not results already booked.

On a full-year basis, the company guided 2026 revenue to between $2.75 billion and $2.85 billion, excluding India.

FMC Corporation at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

The combination of a lighter-than-feared outlook and the read-through that the worst of the channel reset is now in the numbers proved enough to lift the shares sharply, even as the quarter itself bore the marks of a costly transition.
