Health-Workplace Innovation Programme Extends Submission Window as Aachen Partnerships Take Shape

Companies and institutions eyeing the workplace-wellbeing space have been handed extra runway to pitch their ideas. The Aachen-based economic development agency AGIT has pushed back the deadline for project proposals under its "Care for Sustainable Innovation" (CSI) initiative, with submissions for occupational health management concepts now open until August 2026.
The extension arrives as the programme shows early signs of traction. Several innovation partnerships have already been forged, pairing technology developers with frontline users across hospitals, care homes and medical practices. One such collaboration brings JawBuddy together with the Uniklinik RWTH Aachen to explore new therapeutic approaches for craniomandibular dysfunction, a condition affecting the jaw joint and surrounding muscles.
Artificial intelligence is proving a recurring theme in the projects selected so far. CLARAPLAN, the St. Gereon Seniorendienste and the Franziskusheim have joined forces to deploy AI in care planning, while MediSync is working with the general practice of Prof. Dr. Mücke on AI-assisted documentation tools. Another partnership involving MAXAEL Systems, Meknes LongLife and Helga Engels is developing an AI-API platform tailored to nursing needs, and hiptron is building a sensor-equipped rollator in cooperation with the Haus Cadenbach facility at Luisenhospital.

The first application window ran from 15 March to 15 June 2026, and a separate call for innovation partnerships had already seen its deadline moved to 01.07.2026 to attract a wider range of technological proposals for the health sector. AGIT has signalled that a third applicant round is in the pipeline to further expand the partnership portfolio.
Despite the momentum, gaps remain. The agency is still scouting for solutions across seven technology fields, including smart senior living environments, digital prehabilitation tools and AI systems capable of generating medical documentation and discharge letters. Additional focus areas cover the BrainBridge, SHYVT, JawBuddy and My Musawo concepts.
The overarching aim is to bridge the divide between theoretical development and real-world deployment in care and healthcare settings. Digital assistance systems that lighten the load on staff while strengthening patient safety sit at the heart of the initiative's strategic direction.
