Healthineers Bets Its New Name on an Earnings Story Still Unproven
Published on 11/07/2026 at 06:21 | Editorial boerse-global.deSiemens Healthineers wants a shorter name and a standalone identity. Whether the market rewards either depends on something far less cosmetic: an earnings trajectory that, on the company's own guidance, is heading in the wrong direction.
The group said Thursday it will rebrand as Healthineers, a change set to begin in 2027 and roll out over a three-year transition. Shareholders must sign off on the move. It arrives alongside a broader reshaping: the in-vitro diagnostics business is being carved out under the Olyrian Diagnostics banner, with the unit due to become an independent organisation by mid-2028 while remaining inside the group during the handover.
Analysts published their verdicts a day earlier, and they are anything but unanimous. Barclays lifted its price target to €51 from €47.50 while keeping a positive rating. RBC Capital Markets stayed at "Outperform" with a €48 target after the fourth-quarter figures. Deutsche Bank Research reiterated "Hold" with a €39 target, and UBS kept "Neutral" and a €38 target.
A Strong Finish, but a Narrow One
The operating backdrop offers the bulls some cover. Comparable revenue for fiscal 2026 rose 4.0% to €23.63 billion, and adjusted unadjusted earnings per share came in at €2.42. Momentum picked up into the close: comparable sales growth accelerated to 5.9% in the fourth quarter.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Siemens Healthineers?
Strip out the headline and the picture gets patchier. Diagnostics, the very unit being prepared for independence, saw comparable revenue fall 4.2% over the same quarter. The group expanded only because other divisions more than offset that drag. That makes the breadth of growth the number to watch — future revenue prints are best read alongside the diagnostics trend, since a stabilising lab business would ease the burden on everything else.
Guidance Sets a Ceiling
For fiscal 2027, management projects comparable revenue growth of 4.0% to 5.0% and adjusted unadjusted earnings per share of €2.20 to €2.40. The midpoint sits below the €2.42 just delivered, so the coming year is framed as one of investment and reorganisation rather than earnings expansion.
That gap is the crux of the split on the sell side. Sales growth on its own will not justify a richer multiple unless profitability follows; the guidance caps that hope for now. The more cautious calls map neatly onto this risk, while the optimistic targets anticipate a recovery that has yet to show up in the numbers. Anyone buying the strategic story early is effectively betting the company can close the distance between its ambitions and its profit line.
The adjusted unadjusted EPS figure is the cleanest yardstick through the reorganisation, letting investors track the underlying business while the corporate structure shifts. A fresh brand may make the group's independence more visible, but a durable re-rating needs earnings to cooperate.
Two Dates That Matter
February 2027 is the first hard checkpoint: the planned spin-off of Siemens Healthineers is to be put to shareholder votes at both companies' annual general meetings. The rebrand carries the same condition — investor approval.

Governance is shifting too. At the 2027 AGM the company intends to propose Melanie Kreis, Heyo Kroemer, Jonathan Lewin and Pascale Witz as new shareholder representatives on the supervisory board. Roland Busch is to step down before his term ends, while the mandates of Veronika Bienert, Marion Helmes and Karl-Heinz Streibich expire at the meeting in the normal course.
None of that resolves the central question. If Healthineers delivers its growth target and keeps earnings inside the guided range, the standalone story gains credibility and the bullish targets look prescient. If revenue climbs while per-share profit sags — or if diagnostics keeps shrinking and group momentum fades with it — the cautious camp will have the stronger case. A new name cannot substitute for that proof.
