Hensoldt closed Friday at €77.78, down 3.8%, as a broad selloff in AI and semiconductor names rippled across the German market and caught the defence specialist in its wake. The decline came despite quarterly figures that, by at least two houses' reckoning, beat expectations — a disconnect that says as much about the market's mood as about the company's performance.

The Munich-based sensor and electronics group reported a 76.7% jump in order intake for the first nine months of 2026, reaching €3.56 billion. Revenue for the same period came in at €1.86 billion, up 21.3% year on year, while adjusted EBITDA totalled €281 million — a 33.0% advance in adjusted operating profit. The order backlog now stands at €10.4 billion.

Guidance Nailed Down

Alongside the nine-month release, Hensoldt firmed up its full-year 2026 outlook: revenue of roughly €2.8 billion and an adjusted EBITDA margin of about 19.0%. Management also guided the book-to-bill ratio — orders received relative to revenue — toward the upper end of its prior 1.5x to 2.0x range.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Hensoldt?

Two Houses, Two Readings

Deutsche Bank Research reiterated its Buy rating on Friday, keeping a €105 price target and noting that the quarterly numbers had exceeded expectations, according to dpa-AFX. Jefferies had already reaffirmed its own Buy stance on Thursday with an unchanged €98 target, judging both revenue and adjusted EBIT to have topped consensus. A third assessment the same day was more guarded, restating a neutral rating with a €100.0 target.

LBBW moved the other way. Per media reports, the state bank cut its Hensoldt target from €100 to €85 on Friday while maintaining a Hold recommendation — a more cautious valuation sitting alongside the improved business outlook.

Rheinmetall's Shadow

Sector sentiment has been the heavier weight on the share price. Rheinmetall's downgraded forecast dragged on the whole defence complex, and Hensoldt — even with its own guidance raised — came under pressure Thursday after earlier gains, dpa-AFX reported. Friday's tech-driven retreat compounded the effect.

Investors get their next formal checkpoint on 10 November, when Hensoldt holds its Capital Markets Day in London.
