Hensoldt's Strong Nine-Month Run Meets a Sector in Retreat
Published on 11/07/2026 at 21:02 | Editorial boerse-global.deHensoldt's latest quarterly report landed on Thursday, and by the next session the market had rendered a blunt verdict: solid operating numbers alone were not enough. The defence electronics maker's shares fell 3.8% as the wider European defence sector came under pressure, with sentiment dented by Rheinmetall's profit warning and, according to market participants cited by n-tv, by heightened hopes for peace following the US Democrats' election victory. The prospect of cuts to global defence spending was also named as a drag.
The pullback came despite a set of figures that, on paper, looked robust. Revenue for the first nine months of 2026 climbed 21.3% to EUR 1.86 billion. Adjusted EBITDA advanced 33.0% to EUR 281 million, lifting the adjusted EBITDA margin to 15.1%. Orders were the standout: intake surged 76.7% to EUR 3.56 billion, taking the backlog to EUR 10.4 billion.
A Guidance Raise That Fell Short
Alongside the results, Hensoldt sharpened its outlook for 2026, pointing to revenue of around EUR 2.8 billion and an adjusted EBITDA margin of roughly 19.0%. dpa-AFX described the guidance as slightly raised. Yet media reports suggested the revenue target still sat below the analyst consensus — a gap that helps explain why record orders and an upgraded forecast failed to win over investors on the day.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Hensoldt?
The stock's slide also had a sector-wide dimension. Rheinmetall's downward revision to its annual expectations, first reported by dpa-AFX on Thursday, weighed on defence names across the board, and Hensoldt was swept up in the gloom despite its own more optimistic revenue planning.
The Analyst Camp Is Split
Research houses responded to the numbers with markedly different conclusions. Jefferies, per dpa-AFX, reiterated its buy rating and a EUR 98 price target on Thursday, with analyst Ben Brown calling the 2026 revenue target conservative. Deutsche Bank Research also reaffirmed its buy recommendation, keeping a EUR 105 target; analyst Christophe Menard wrote that Hensoldt had exceeded expectations.
JPMorgan, by contrast, stuck with its "Neutral" rating on Thursday, according to dpa-AFX, without changing its recommendation. LBBW moved in the opposite direction from the bulls, trimming its price target to EUR 85 from EUR 100 while maintaining a "Hold" stance — a cut that landed on the same trading day as the sector-wide selling.
London Is the Next Stop
With the quarterly scorecard now digested, attention shifts to Hensoldt's capital markets day in London on 10 November, the next confirmed item on the company's calendar. For a business that has just posted a 76.7% jump in order intake and a backlog of EUR 10.4 billion, the event offers management a fresh stage to argue that execution — not sector sentiment — deserves to set the share price.
