Howmet Aerospace handed investors a three-part package this week: third-quarter results that cleared expectations, a raised full-year outlook, and a freshly authorized buyback. The market's response was immediate — the stock climbed 4.1% following the release.

At the center of the report is a widening gap between top-line growth and bottom-line momentum. Revenue for the third quarter of 2026 rose 29% year over year to $2.703 billion, but adjusted earnings per share advanced considerably faster, jumping 54% to $1.46. GAAP earnings per share came in at $1.42.

The profitability picture reinforced that trend. Adjusted EBITDA reached $879 million, up 43%, for a margin of 32.5%. Free cash flow totaled $562 million. In other words, Howmet did more than sell more — it converted that volume into richer margins, which is what underpins the upgraded guidance rather than a simple revenue effect.

Guidance Raised, With a First Look at 2027

For the full year 2026, Howmet now projects revenue of between $10.290 billion and $10.310 billion, alongside adjusted earnings per share of $5.49 to $5.51. The company lifted both figures with the quarterly report.

Management also went a step further and issued its first revenue forecast for the following year. For 2027, Howmet targets roughly $11.5 billion in sales — a figure the company says would represent growth of about 12% over its raised 2026 outlook. That projection remains an expectation rather than a result, and it will need to be validated by actual business performance over the coming quarters.

Capital Returns Take Center Stage

Alongside the operating update, the board on Wednesday approved an additional $5 billion in share repurchases. Combined with the remaining authorization, the total approved program now stands at $5.397 billion. The new clearance opens room for future buybacks, though it should not be confused with purchases already executed.

Howmet was already active on that front. During the quarter it bought back $500 million of common stock and raised its quarterly dividend by 17%, adding a second channel of capital returns on top of the repurchases.

Howmet Aerospace at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

The rally that followed the announcement therefore reflected a combination of factors — earnings that beat expectations, higher full-year targets, and expanded buyback capacity — rather than the revenue increase alone. Layered on top is the 2027 outlook, which extends the investment case beyond how the current year is likely to close, even as its execution lies ahead.
