Howmet's Strong Quarter Meets a Wave of Trimmed Price Targets
Published on 11/02/2026 at 07:02 | Editorial boerse-global.deHowmet Aerospace finds itself in an unusual position: a company that just beat its own guidance is watching its share price slide. The stock fell 3.6% on Friday, a move that coincided with a round of price-target cuts from several analyst houses even as the aerospace supplier's third-quarter results came in above the top end of its own forecast range. No single trigger for the decline has been established, and no fresh negative company announcement drove the session.
Analysts Keep Their Ratings but Lower the Bar
Matt Akers of BNP Paribas reaffirmed his "Outperform" rating on Friday while cutting his price target to $250 from $310. The distinction matters — a lower target is not the same as a sell recommendation, and Akers kept his constructive stance intact. Gavin Parsons of UBS likewise maintained a neutral rating but reduced his target to $230 from $255. Other houses trimmed their marks as well, leaving the analyst community with a mixed set of recommendations but a shared direction on targets.
Those adjustments describe a reassessment of valuation, not a retroactive correction of the reported business figures. Positive company numbers and more cautious valuation standards can coexist, and that is precisely what happened here.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Howmet Aerospace?
The Quarter Itself Beat Internal Expectations
Howmet reported revenue of $2.703 billion for the third quarter of 2026 on Thursday, a 29% increase year over year. The top line landed above the company's own guidance range, which makes the subsequent selling pressure difficult to read as a reaction to a miss. Adjusted earnings per share reached $1.46, up 54% from a year earlier — a faster rate of growth than the revenue line.
Management also raised its full-year 2026 outlook. Revenue is now projected at $10.290 billion to $10.310 billion, with adjusted EPS expected in a range of $5.49 to $5.51. The improved guidance belongs to the same recent disclosure as the quarterly growth, and it should not be confused with a downgrade.
Buybacks Get More Room, With a Caveat
On Wednesday, the board of directors authorized an additional $5 billion for share repurchases, lifting the total authorization to $5.397 billion. An authorization, however, is not the same as executed purchases. Howmet bought back $500 million of its common stock in the third quarter of 2026, and repurchases since the start of the year totaled $1.1 billion through Wednesday.
2027 Sets the Next Benchmark
Beyond the current fiscal year, Howmet issued its first revenue forecast for 2027: approximately $11.5 billion, implying growth of roughly 12%. That figure is an expectation, not revenue already booked. For investors, two layers now sit side by side — a company that has raised its expectations and widened its buyback capacity, and a stock that lost ground in a weak sector environment for aerospace suppliers. Whether Howmet delivers on the announced growth path is the measure that will matter for the operational story.
