Infineon shares climbed 4.4% to EUR 47.05 on Thursday, clawing back part of the steep losses suffered in the previous session, when the German chipmaker was caught in a broad technology and semiconductor selloff that wiped 11% off its value and left the stock at EUR 45.05.

The retreat was triggered in the US and rippled across European chip names, with market participants pointing to fears that Democratic majorities in the US Congress could put the brakes on the buildout of AI data centres. The unease spread quickly through the sector, and Infineon — one of Europe's most prominent semiconductor groups — bore the brunt of it.

JPMorgan Sticks to Its Guns

Against that choppy backdrop, JPMorgan reaffirmed its "Overweight" rating and EUR 96 price target on Wednesday, ahead of the company's quarterly update. Investors will get the next hard data point on 10 November 2026, when Infineon reports fourth-quarter and full-year 2026 figures.

The American bank's vote of confidence lands at a moment when the stock is being driven less by fundamentals than by macro headlines. Still, the company has spent the week stacking up announcements that speak directly to the AI infrastructure theme at the centre of the selloff.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Infineon?

A Week of Announcements

On Tuesday, Infineon launched its OptiMOS-7 40V MOSFET family, aimed squarely at AI servers, data centres and telecommunications infrastructure. The timing is pointed: the product line targets precisely the end markets that investors have been fretting about.

The partnerships came thick and fast. Vertiv signed a three-year strategic supply agreement with Infineon on Wednesday covering silicon and silicon-carbide power semiconductors, components destined for use in Vertiv's 800 VDC power supply systems, among other applications. A day earlier, Infineon and SOLUM put pen to paper on a memorandum of understanding to deepen their collaboration on high-voltage direct-current solutions for AI data centres.

Under the Hood of the Car

Infineon's automotive ambitions got an airing too. On Monday, the company announced a cooperation with Qualcomm Technologies on a microcontroller-based subsystem for Qualcomm's Snapdragon Ride reference platforms, which are geared toward high-performance computing and AI in vehicles.

Alongside that, Infineon unveiled its AURIX RC1 microcontroller platform for software-defined vehicles, which the company also flags for physical-AI applications. Samples of the platform are slated to become available in the first half of 2027 — an announced availability timeline rather than a shipping product.

The AURIX RC1 family will take centre stage at the electronica trade fair in Munich, which opens on 10 November. Infineon plans to present the family there from 10 to 13 November, putting the microcontroller line — pitched at both software-defined vehicles and physical AI — in front of the industry just as its quarterly numbers land.
