Intel's Revenue Miss Knocks Infineon as Chip Stocks Retreat

Infineon shares came under pressure on Thursday, dragged down by a disappointing revenue outlook from Intel that rippled across European semiconductor names. The stock was down 4.4% in the session, having already slipped 2.4% in pre-market trading as the weak sector news took hold.

Intel guided to revenue of $15–16 billion, well short of the $17.1 billion analysts had pencilled in. The company also flagged continued weakness in the PC market — a backdrop that reports cited directly as a drag on the chip sector and on Infineon's share price. Reuters reported that Intel's soft guidance and production problems following an explosion in Israel weighed on semiconductor stocks, with the sector index losing ground after hours. The news agency did not explicitly name Infineon among the affected stocks.

AI Data Centre Push Gathers Pace

Against that sector headwind, Infineon has kept up a steady stream of technology announcements. On Tuesday the company unveiled a High-Voltage Power Distribution Board, a reference design aimed at next-generation power supply architectures in AI data centres.

The AI theme runs through several of the company's recent moves. On 21 October, Infineon and NVIDIA expanded their collaboration on direct-current architectures for AI data centres, working on systems at 800 volts. At the heart of the effort is a high-voltage intermediate bus converter built on Infineon's GaN technology, targeting power conversion inside AI data centres. A day later, UnternehmerTUM Accelerator, Microsoft, Infineon and NVIDIA jointly launched the "Physical AI Growth Lab," an equity-free support programme for European start-ups in physical AI, robotics and industrial AI, scheduled to run from January to April 2027.

Infineon also fleshed out a separate partnership with Enphase Energy. Following Monday's announcement, Infineon is to supply the company with 900-volt GaN switches for solid-state transformer power supply modules. The components will be integrated into Enphase's product development, with production qualification to follow.

Silicon Carbide Supply Secured

On the silicon carbide side, Infineon signed a multi-year supply agreement with Wolfspeed on 15 October covering 200-millimetre silicon carbide wafers. According to Infineon, the deal shifts its existing supply from Wolfspeed from 150-millimetre to 200-millimetre substrate technology, supporting the corresponding conversion of its SiC manufacturing.

Manufacturing plans are advancing too. Infineon said on Tuesday it will invest around EUR 1.1 billion at its Villach site through 2034, channelling the funds into existing cleanroom space to build high-volume production of GaN power semiconductors. The plan envisages production on 300-millimetre wafers, with output scheduled to begin at the end of 2027.

Infineon at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

The announced steps differ in their stage of maturity: in Villach the focus is on building out manufacturing capacity, while at Enphase production qualification is still pending after integration into product development.

Investors will get their next look at the company's finances on 10 November, when Infineon publishes results for fiscal year 2025/26 and its outlook for 2026/27.
