Medtronic is pressing ahead on two fronts at once: rolling out a next-generation surgical navigation platform across Europe while simultaneously reshaping its corporate structure and rewarding shareholders for a 49th consecutive year.

First European Procedures Completed

The medtech giant confirmed that initial clinical procedures using its Stealth AXiS surgical navigation system have been carried out on the continent. More than 23 operations were performed successfully across seven sites in Germany, the United Kingdom, Italy and Spain. The milestone marks the start of the system's use in four core European markets and underscores Medtronic's push to deepen its footprint in operating rooms across the region.

Leadership Change in Cardiology

Alongside the clinical progress, the company is bolstering its executive ranks. Lara Barghout is taking the helm of the Interventional Cardiology Therapies division as president, according to media reports. Barghout previously served as chief executive officer of Recor Medical.

Wall Street's confidence in the company's strategic direction remains intact. Analysts at Needham & Company reaffirmed their buy rating on Medtronic shares on September 17, keeping their positive stance without adjusting the price target.

Dividend Record Hits 49 Straight Years

Income-focused investors received fresh confirmation of Medtronic's payout discipline. The company set the official record date on Friday for its upcoming quarterly dividend of $0.72 per common share for the second quarter of fiscal 2027, with payment scheduled for October 16, 2026. The distribution reflects the increase announced in June and extends an exceptional run: 49 consecutive years of rising annual dividends.

MiniMed Spinoff in Motion

While the dividend machine keeps humming, Medtronic is moving forward with efforts to streamline its structure. An exchange offer launched on September 14 aims to separate at least 80.1% of the MiniMed Group. Shareholders can swap their Medtronic common stock for MiniMed shares at a 7% discount. The company is making up to 225,361,295 MiniMed shares available, with an additional 27,452,053 securities possible in the event of oversubscription. The offer runs through October 9. Through the separation, Medtronic intends to simplify its organization and channel resources more deliberately into high-return growth areas.

Guidance Raised, CE Mark Expanded

Roughly three weeks ago, the company lifted its annual forecast — a move that has since been followed by a 2.6% decline in the share price. The revision was driven by a recovery in demand across multiple segments. On August 6, Medtronic also expanded CE marking for its Affera Mapping and Ablation System and the Sphere-9 catheter for treating ventricular arrhythmias.
