Micron's 277% Memory Rally Heads Into Wednesday's Earnings With Wall Street Split

Micron Technology shares have been one of the standout performers of the year, but the memory-chip maker now faces a week that will test whether that run can hold. The stock closed Friday's European session at 949.90 euros, up 277% since the start of the year — a gain that has left little room for disappointment as the company prepares to report fiscal fourth-quarter results.
Those numbers land Wednesday, September 30, after the close of regular US trading. The central question for market watchers is whether demand for memory solutions can keep pace with the valuations the stock now commands.
Analysts Pull in Different Directions
The run-up has produced a notably divided analyst community. Citigroup's Atif Malik raised his price target on Micron from $1,150 to $1,300 on Wednesday while reaffirming a Buy rating, pointing to unexpectedly favorable developments in average DRAM prices. The bank also flagged additional upside potential for the quarter just ended and for the company's forward guidance, and said it expects DRAM and NAND supply to remain tight given AI-driven demand.
Wells Fargo moved the other way, trimming its target from $1,525 to $1,400 on Wednesday while keeping an Overweight rating. Other market participants have reportedly adopted more cautious stances, citing broader industry concerns.
Rosenblatt Securities' Kevin Cassidy stood firm on the bullish side, reiterating a Buy rating and a $1,500 target on Thursday. The more optimistic voices continue to point to the opportunity that advanced data-center architectures open up for memory manufacturers.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Micron Technology?
A Patent Complaint Lands Alongside the Earnings Build-Up
Not all of the week's news came from the analyst community. Netlist disclosed Thursday that the US International Trade Commission has named Micron as a respondent in an investigation, alongside Supermicro, HPE and Lenovo. Netlist is seeking legal orders to block future imports of the memory products at issue, alleging infringement of its intellectual property rights.
Those claims originate with Netlist and do not constitute an official finding by the agency that Micron has in fact violated any rights.
Product Momentum and a Personnel Shift
On the technology front, Micron continues to push its high-performance server lineup forward. The company reported on September 15 the successful demonstration of a 512GB DDR5 RDIMM across multiple server platforms, with AMD and Intel currently running validation on the module. Management has targeted volume production for the second half of 2027. The module offers transfer rates of up to 9,200 MT/s.
Micron also adjusted its development leadership mid-month, appointing Deirdre Hanford as Corporate Vice President and President of Micron Research Labs.
At its Taiwan site, meanwhile, Reuters reported on September 15 that union representatives were preparing for possible work stoppages tied to demands for a global profit-sharing arrangement. No production disruptions occurred and no strike was actually called.
With those threads converging, attention now turns squarely to Wednesday's balance sheet.
