Nokia's stock advanced 3.5% on Friday, catching the tailwind of a broader rebound in technology shares. The gain came after two straight sessions of losses for AI-related equities, a selloff that media reports tied to worries over spending in the AI sector and the prospect of regulation — concerns that had not fully cleared even as prices recovered.

The timing of Nokia's move coincided with the wider tech recovery, though no company-specific catalyst has been confirmed as the driver. The rebound itself was reported by the news agency AP, while Reuters covered the Friday rally in technology stocks.

Where Nokia Touches the AI Theme

Nokia's exposure to artificial intelligence runs from network contracts to traffic forecasting. On Wednesday the company said Hotwire Communications had picked it to build a new network in North Carolina, designed to be ready for AI networking architectures. The deployment relies on Nokia's 7750 Service Router; according to the company, the architecture is meant to cut latency and network complexity, with service expected to begin in early 2027.

A separate agreement, signed about two weeks ago, brought in Nokia and ICEYE alongside Ukraine's defense ministry. The parties put their names to a memorandum of understanding to explore cooperation on sovereign satellite communications.

Quarterly Figures and a Steady Outlook

Nokia's results, released roughly two weeks ago, covered the third quarter of 2026. Comparable net sales came in at EUR 5,154 million, up 10% year on year on a reported basis and 9% at constant currency. Comparable operating profit climbed 35% to EUR 605 million.

Management left its full-year 2026 guidance for comparable operating profit untouched at EUR 2.1 billion to EUR 2.6 billion.

A Long-Horizon Bet on Data Growth

Alongside the quarterly update, Nokia published a report on the future of global network traffic. It projects that AI will account for 44% of worldwide data traffic by 2035, with total monthly volume reaching almost 3,789 exabytes by then. Those are forecasts rather than reported traffic levels.

Nokia at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

The Hotwire order represents a concrete build-out, while the traffic study sets out Nokia's view of long-term demand. For North Carolina, early 2027 remains the next fixed date on the calendar.
