Nokia's stock closed Friday at €7.00, up 3.5%, as optimism around AI-driven telecom equipment and rising network traffic lifted sentiment. Media reports point to that broader enthusiasm as a possible backdrop for the move, though no single fresh catalyst has been confirmed as the trigger.

The advance followed a rebound in AI-related equities, which came on the heels of a two-day selloff, according to media accounts. Worries about spending levels in the AI sector and the prospect of regulation have not dissipated.

Quarterly Figures and Steady Guidance

Roughly two weeks ago, Nokia reported third-quarter 2026 comparable net sales of €5,154 million, a 10% increase year over year by the company's own accounting. Comparable operating profit climbed 35% to €605 million. Management left its full-year outlook for comparable operating profit untouched, still projecting between €2.1 billion and €2.6 billion.

Hotwire Taps Nokia for North Carolina Build

Among the week's concrete announcements, Hotwire Communications selected Nokia to construct a next-generation network in North Carolina. The build is designed to be ready for AI-based network architectures and will use Nokia's 7750 Service Router line. Activation is expected in early 2027. The order has not been established as the cause of the recent share-price gain.

Moody's Lifts Nokia to Investment Grade

Credit quality also moved in Nokia's favor this week. Moody's Ratings raised the company's long-term issuer rating and the rating on its senior unsecured obligations from Ba1 to Baa3, with the outlook remaining positive, according to media reports. The agency cited demand for cloud and AI infrastructure as well as Nokia's expanding network infrastructure business as the rationale.

Traffic Forecast Points to an AI-Heavy Decade

Separately, Nokia published a long-range outlook on global network traffic. It projects that AI will account for 44% of worldwide network traffic by 2035, with total monthly data volume approaching 3,789 exabytes. The figures represent a corporate forecast rather than traffic volumes already recorded. While the Hotwire contract covers a specific build-out, the traffic report sets out Nokia's view of longer-term demand; early 2027 remains the next milestone on the North Carolina timeline.

Satellite Cooperation Under Review

Nokia and ICEYE also signed a letter of intent with Ukraine's defense ministry about two weeks ago. The parties will examine potential cooperation on sovereign satellite communications.
