Novo Nordisk Confronts a Leaked Physician Register While Analysts Bet on a Wegovy Pill Boost

Novo Nordisk finds itself juggling reputational fallout from a reported data breach with the market's anticipation of its November 4 earnings release, as two very different narratives compete for investors' attention.

Danish outlets Dagens Medicin and Ingeniøren have reported that stolen documents show the company rated more than 7,000 Danish doctors and nurses by commercial value and loyalty. According to Ingeniøren, the register names a total of 46,843 Danish healthcare workers. The two figures describe separate aspects of the same story: the larger number covers the individuals recorded, while the smaller one refers to those reportedly scored on commercial criteria. Ingeniøren adds that the register holds detailed profiles on the use of diabetes and obesity drugs in particular.

MedWatch, meanwhile, reports that hackers had access to Novo's systems for a month and a half. The group Fulcrumsec had already claimed earlier in the year to have carried out a larger attack on the company.

Novo Nordisk declines to verify the leaked data, so the reported contents should not be treated as confirmed by the company. Even so, the publications create a potential reputational risk for investors around how the group handles information about healthcare professionals.

Buybacks Continue Within an Unchanged Framework

Separately, the company confirmed on Monday that it is pressing ahead with share repurchases under its existing program, which carries a ceiling of up to DKK 15 billion. The twelve-month scheme began on February 4, and the latest notice merely documents its ongoing execution — it announces neither a fresh program nor an increase to the current envelope.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Novo Nordisk?

That distinction matters. Buybacks speak to how capital is deployed, not to how medicine sales are developing, so investors must keep capital measures and operating earnings prospects apart when sizing up the stock.

BMO Capital's Evan Seigerman did exactly that on October 12, cutting his price target to $40 from $47 while keeping a "Market Perform" rating. He cited a tough year-over-year comparison and shrinking US market share, either of which could weigh on Ozempic revenue in the third quarter of 2026. The comparison refers explicitly to the third quarter of 2025; it is an expectation, not reported figures.

CagriSema Data Cuts Both Ways

An already-published detailed analysis of CagriSema offers a counterweight. According to Novo Nordisk, the post-hoc review of the Phase 3 REDEFINE 1 trial covered 2,309 women, whose average weight loss reached 25.0 percent after 68 weeks when treatment adherence was assumed.

The readout therefore highlights the potential of a possible future product, though its limits are clear: it is an exploratory analysis conducted after the study closed, and CagriSema is not approved. The placebo arm achieved average weight loss of 3.0 percent. Reuters framed the results as possible support for CagriSema's potential as a Wegovy successor.

What matters for valuation is the gap between this subgroup analysis and the overall result. The full study showed 22.7 percent weight loss, missing the company's 25 percent goal.

Two Banks, Two Shades of Optimism

J.P. Morgan expects Novo Nordisk to raise its full-year guidance for revenue and operating profit at the November 4 presentation, pointing to strong demand for the Wegovy pill. In a client note in early October, the bank had already projected a strong third quarter of 2026, with the Wegovy pill beating expectations. A guidance hike, however, remains an analyst forecast rather than a company decision.

Nordea reaffirmed its buy rating on Monday with a price target of 380 Danish kroner, naming the Wegovy tablet launch and upcoming study results as near-term positive catalysts. That confidence does not extend to the imminent figures: the bank expects a 4 percent currency-adjusted revenue decline for the third quarter, 1.5 percentage points below consensus, and adjusted operating profit of DKK 28.7 billion — 1 percent under the market's average estimate.

The two threads — trust and reputation on one side, demand for the Wegovy pill on the other — run in parallel rather than canceling each other out. Nor do the buybacks or the CagriSema findings refute BMO's US concerns on their own. The yardstick stays the same: whether Novo Nordisk can contain operating pressure and turn still-experimental product potential into durable business prospects.
