Novo Nordisk Data Touts Semaglutid's Weight Edge in MASH, but Prescription Trends and Pipeline Shifts Tell a More Complicated Story
Published on 11/07/2026 at 10:21 | Editorial boerse-global.deNovo Nordisk released observational data yesterday showing divergent weight trajectories for adults with MASH treated with semaglutid versus resmetirom. In the PLATINUM-Truveta study, mean weight change came in at minus 18.9 pounds compared with minus 5.6 pounds. The analysis covered a six-month window and, according to the company, does not establish a causal relationship.
The evaluation examined semaglutid at a 2.4 milligram dose. Novo Nordisk presented the findings as part of observational research at the AASLD Liver Meeting, where it also reported associations between Wegovy treatment and lower liver enzyme levels as well as lower blood glucose readings. The investigations were retrospective in design, drawing on existing treatment data rather than randomized trial results. The observed weight difference therefore remains an association; a causal superiority over resmetirom cannot be inferred from it, per Novo Nordisk's own statements.
US Prescriptions Flat on Average
On the Wegovy sales front, attention turns to US prescription figures. According to media reports, Citi confirmed its "Neutral" rating for Novo Nordisk yesterday. The research house noted that total US prescription volumes fell 1% in the week ended October 30, while the four-week average remained unchanged for the second consecutive time.
Novo Nordisk has announced further data presentations for ObesityWeek 2026, taking place November 14–17, 2026, in Washington, D.C. Per the company's October 29 announcement, the program includes 26 scientific abstracts, among them analyses of CagriSema, real-world data on the Wegovy pill, and full results from STEP Young.

Twelve Abstracts Slated for Denver
Separately, Novo Nordisk has earmarked twelve scientific contributions for The Liver Meeting, running November 5–9 in Denver. These cover semaglutid as well as the still-in-development active ingredient efruxifermin. The company published that announcement on October 28.
Partnership Expanded, Research Agreement Terminated
Abbott announced on Thursday an expansion of its collaboration with Novo Nordisk. The companies plan to market Plosbrio in Singapore and additional Asia-Pacific countries. Plosbrio is a second brand of Ozempic semaglutid that Novo Nordisk has developed and manufactures.
Another collaboration, by contrast, is set to end: Novo Nordisk informed Korro Bio on Tuesday that it is terminating their research cooperation and licensing agreement effective February 1, 2027. According to Korro Bio, the upfront payment already received and other amounts paid are non-refundable.
