A sector-wide retreat in semiconductor and technology shares dragged Nvidia lower on Thursday, with the stock shedding 3.1 percent to close at EUR 205.60. The decline had little to do with the company itself: rising oil prices and turbulence in the bond market soured the mood across the chip complex, and peers including Broadcom and Micron gave ground alongside the AI bellwether, according to AP.

Sentiment took a further hit from Financial Times reporting that OpenAI's annualized revenue sits roughly $20 billion below figures circulated previously. That shortfall rippled through the entire artificial intelligence segment and made market participants more cautious. Nvidia shares stabilized in pre-market trading at EUR 207.90, keeping the 52-week high of EUR 216.10 within striking distance.

A Washington Filing Draws Attention

Separately, disclosure records out of Washington gave market watchers something else to chew on. Reuters reported that Donald Trump acquired Nvidia securities worth as much as $1.6 million in August while selling holdings of up to $1 million. The mandatory filing landed around the same time preparations were underway to award Jensen Huang the National Medal of Science.

Hardware Roadmap Takes Shape

Macro noise aside, the company is pressing ahead with rolling out its next generation of computing systems. Global pre-orders for the first laptops in the RTX Spark line opened on Wednesday, with official availability set for October 16. Compact desktop versions are slated to follow in November. Nvidia also offered a preview of the DGX Station for Windows.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Nvidia?

Developer platforms are expanding in parallel. On October 2, the company unveiled a 64-gigabyte DGX Spark configuration built specifically for local development environments. That system is due to reach customers from October 23 through partners including Acer, ASUS, Dell, Gigabyte, HP and MSI.

Analysts Stay Constructive

Despite the recent sector correction, optimism remains the dominant stance on the sell side. On Tuesday, Citi analyst Atif Malik reiterated his "Buy" rating and kept his price target at $315, pointing to additional demand for graphics processors generated by the development of autonomous AI agents. A day later, Daniel Ives initiated coverage at Yorkville Ives & Co with a buy recommendation and a $300 target, citing Nvidia's role as the foundational computing platform for the AI economy.

Not every development has gone smoothly. Nvidia-backed Australian data center operator Firmus Grid Ltd. failed on Thursday to drum up enough demand for its planned IPO at an offer price of A$11 per share, according to Bloomberg, and the order book was closed for the time being.

Even after the latest pullback, the stock remains firmly in positive territory for the year, up 28 percent since January. Attention now turns to how quickly deliveries of the newly announced hardware generation can stoke operating demand.
