Nvidia's push to shape the physical layer of artificial intelligence infrastructure is widening on two fronts: the company is evaluating Intel's most advanced manufacturing process for future chips while simultaneously rolling out a certification program that dictates how power and cooling gear connects to AI data centers.

The stock closed Friday at EUR 197.76, a gain of 0.2% from the prior session and just 2.3% below its 52-week high of EUR 202.50. Investors took the week's developments in stride.

Intel's 14A Process Draws Scrutiny From Chip Designers

Piper Sandler flagged in a research note Friday that Nvidia ranks among the major technology firms conducting a technical review of Intel's cutting-edge 14A production node. Media reports place Nvidia in a group that also includes Amazon, Apple, AMD, Google, Tesla, Microsoft and Qualcomm — a roster that, if converted into orders, would give Intel's foundry ambitions a significant vote of confidence.

The note identifies Nvidia specifically as one of the companies assessing the feasibility and performance of the 14A process for its own future products.

Glass-Core Substrates Eyed to Lift HBM Capacity

Separately, equipment maker SCHMID Group used its first-half earnings presentation Thursday to detail its role in the global semiconductor supply chain. The company said it works closely with key suppliers of specialized manufacturing equipment for glass-core substrates — components that sit deep in the supply chains of Nvidia, AMD and Intel.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Nvidia?

Nvidia is reportedly weighing the adoption of these glass substrates to substantially increase the high-bandwidth memory (HBM) capacity carried on its AI processors. According to the equipment supplier, however, the rollout remains at an early stage, with final customer qualification not yet complete.

DSX Ready Sets Standards for Power and Cooling

Beyond chipmaking, Nvidia is extending its reach into the infrastructure that surrounds its accelerators. The DSX Ready program, launched Monday with specifications for battery storage and coolant distribution units, qualifies energy and cooling systems for so-called AI factories. The goal is to ensure that external components such as power supplies and cooling equipment meet the technical demands of modern high-performance computing.

Hardware partners are already responding. LG Electronics said Tuesday that it had certified a 2.6-megawatt cooling unit to DSX Ready standards.

Server Shipments Ramp as Huawei Circles

Delivery of next-generation servers is gathering pace in parallel. Super Micro Computer announced Wednesday that it is shipping systems with Nvidia Vera Rubin NVL72 racks to customers.

Competition from abroad is taking shape at the same time. Huawei said on September 17 that it plans to bring its Ascend 960 AI chip to market as early as 2027.

Grid Strain Debate and a $300 Million Insider Sale

The surging energy appetite of large-scale computing is drawing scrutiny. Josh Parker of Nvidia told Axios that artificially slowing the buildout to relieve pressure on power grids would jeopardize innovation — including clean energy technologies that depend on AI.

On the corporate side, a substantial transaction emerged from within the company's own ranks. A mandatory filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission shows that Nvidia director Mark A. Stevens sold 1,366,000 shares on September 18, a package valued at roughly $300.1 million.
