A major European Space Agency award has handed OHB a firm, euro-denominated anchor for its order book. Through its OHB System subsidiary, the Bremen-based group will serve as prime contractor on the Copernicus Sentinel-3 Next Generation Topography satellite, a development contract worth more than EUR 554 million.

The agreement carries an option for a second satellite, extending the arrangement beyond the firmly placed development work — though that option remains distinct from a binding follow-on order. What sets the ESA deal apart from OHB's other strategic announcements is its character: a development contract with a quantified volume, not merely a stated intention to cooperate.

Order Intake Is Not Earnings

Investors should keep the two apart. A contract win and a profit contribution are different quantities, and the headline figure alone says nothing about the margin the work will ultimately deliver. The award gives the share price a concrete business hook, but it is not proof of higher earnings.

For a financial yardstick, media reports point to OHB targeting total output of EUR 1.4 billion for 2026, alongside an adjusted EBITDA margin of 10.5% to 11%. Those targets address a separate question from the order news: the contract concerns agreed business, while the margin guidance speaks to the earnings power OHB hopes to extract from it.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying OHB SE?

Jefferies, for its part, is looking for the positive trends of the first half to carry through. Analyst Chloe Lemarie kept her "Buy" rating and a EUR 280 price target on 29 October, ahead of the third-quarter figures, arguing that a solid margin performance should have extended the earlier momentum. OHB has scheduled publication of its nine-month 2026 numbers for 12 November.

Partnerships Round Out the Pipeline

Alongside the ESA mandate, OHB is widening its industrial ties. A strategic partnership announced on 26 October with MediaMobil Communication will see OHB take a 25% stake through a capital increase, a move aimed at bolstering its satellite communications capabilities. The holding is a planned acquisition rather than a completed one.

A memorandum of understanding signed with Astroscale Holdings on 28 October sits in a different category again. The two sides will examine possible cooperation in space safety, space situational awareness and in-orbit services, with no concrete orders or contract volumes disclosed. An operational tie-up is not yet reported as concluded — the subject for now is the range of potential fields.

Separately, OHB flagged the completion of the EU-funded Eu-BEST project, which closed with the commissioning and acceptance of a full-scale test stand for rocket engines and rocket stages.

OHB SE at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

Share Price and Contract News Diverge

The stock's recent direction offers a caution against reading the ESA win as the sole driver of sentiment. OHB shares fell 1.7% to EUR 207.50, a decline media reports attributed to no specific trigger, casting it instead as a continuation of a weaker run. Any link between the contract announcement and price action has not been explicitly confirmed.

That leaves the picture split between a firm, quantified development order and a share price still working off its recent slide — with the November update set to test whether the margin story Jefferies is backing holds up.
