OMV Slips as Iran Diplomacy Cools Crude, Even After Blockbuster Quarter and Wave of Price-Target Hikes
Published on 11/02/2026 at 15:31 | Editorial boerse-global.deOMV shares ran into profit-taking on Friday, shedding 2.3% as a pullback in crude prices weighed on European energy names. A media report pointing to diplomatic progress in the Iran standoff eased fears that Washington could soon resume military strikes, and the resulting slide in oil prices dragged the stock into the ranks of the session's bigger decliners, according to APA. Reuters likewise flagged a marked retreat in crude, attributing it to investors betting on headway in U.S.–Iran talks.
The drop stands in sharp contrast to the prior trading day, when the stock had climbed 2.0% on the back of firming energy prices and encouraging analyst responses to Thursday's quarterly release.
Analysts Lift Targets After Strong Print
UBS reaffirmed its "Buy" rating on Friday and nudged its price target to EUR 79 from EUR 77. RBC Capital Markets had already moved a day earlier, raising its target to EUR 75.0 from EUR 70.0 while keeping a "Sector Perform" stance.
Those revisions rested on a hefty earnings jump. OMV reported third-quarter 2026 CCS operating profit before special items of EUR 2,117 mn, up 68% year on year. Reuters linked the gain to stronger refining margins and higher oil and gas prices, noting it marked the company's best adjusted quarterly operating result since late 2022.

Clean CCS net income attributable to shareholders before special items came in at EUR 1,153 mn, a 94% increase over the prior-year period. CCS earnings per share before special items reached EUR 3.54, up 95%. CEO Emma Delaney told APA that a supportive market environment did the heavy lifting, with the Fuels and Energy segments in particular posting gains.
Guidance Raised on Both Spending and Crude Assumptions
Alongside the results, OMV lifted its full-year outlook. Organic capital expenditure is now pegged at roughly EUR 3.5 bn, up from the earlier plan of about EUR 3.4 bn. The company also raised its average Brent assumption to more than USD 95 per barrel, having previously guided for USD 85–95/bbl. For the European refining reference margin, OMV is working with around USD 25 per barrel.
A further earnings pillar is expected to come from the Neptun Deep gas project in Romania, which Reuters reported should add about EUR 500 mn a year to operating profit once plateau production is reached.
