Palantir's Commercial Surge Meets a Contract Book That Won't Keep Pace

Palantir's stock slid 9.7% as a broad selloff in AI-linked equities swept through the sector, with media reports tying the retreat to mounting doubts about the durability of the AI boom and local resistance to data-center expansion. A parallel account put the day's decline at 9.8%, noting that the pullback in chipmakers had spilled over into software names riding the AI buildout—Palantir and CrowdStrike among them.

The drop lands on top of valuation concerns that were already in place. What the session really demonstrated is that Palantir's operating momentum, however strong, is not by itself enough to win over investors who are questioning the price they are being asked to pay.

A Quarter That Puts the Growth on Display

Monday's results for the third quarter of 2026 showed revenue growth of 96%. US commercial revenue climbed 148%, and for the first time it overtook sales to US government customers—a shift that speaks to the growing weight of private-sector applications in Palantir's mix.

Management also raised its outlook on Monday, projecting 91% revenue growth for 2026 overall and 143% growth in the US commercial business. Those are the kind of numbers that argue forcefully for the company's operating dynamism. Whether the pace can be sustained is the question that will decide how convincing the equity looks from here.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Palantir?

Concrete Deployments, Not Just Promises

On Wednesday, Changshin and Palantir announced a partnership that will put Foundry and AIP to work in the shoe manufacturer's development and production processes. The deal offers a tangible use case at a moment when the debate is dominated by data centers and their construction.

That matters because the real test of any AI investment case is whether enterprises fold the technology into their day-to-day workflows. The Changshin tie-up points to Palantir's access to industrial applications, though its significance for the share price depends on whether such partnerships translate into lasting business.

AmeriLife provided a second data point. The company announced a company-wide agreement to deploy Palantir's Foundry and Artificial Intelligence Platform across its health and wealth distribution organizations, starting with Crump Life Insurance Services. In a more skeptical market, named deployments like these carry more weight than broad growth pledges—they show where the products are actually going. What counts afterward is how successfully those rollouts develop economically.

The Order Book Tells a Different Story

The weak spot in the bullish reading sits in the gap between current growth and new contract wins. According to media reports, investors were particularly focused on the total contract value backlog, which came in largely unchanged from the prior quarter.

Closed total contract value rose 6% year over year, while the US commercial figure grew 11%. Both increases fell well short of the corresponding revenue growth rates. Until the momentum in new bookings becomes more convincing, that discrepancy argues for caution on valuation.

Palantir at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

Wall Street Sends Mixed Signals

Analyst moves on Tuesday cut both ways. Citi lifted its price target to $265 from $250 while reaffirming its buy rating, attaching the higher mark to an unchanged stance. RBC Capital raised its target to $130 from $90 but kept its "Underperform" rating, leaving its view restrained despite the bump. Three more research houses also raised targets on Tuesday without altering their ratings, with new marks ranging from $233 to $250 and opinions spanning neutral weightings to positive recommendations.

So the day's decline stands opposite a cluster of raised targets—adjustments that included both bullish and hesitant calls and do not add up to a uniform buy signal.

Weighing it all, a measured stance on the stock seems warranted. Palantir is delivering powerful growth and can point to concrete applications for its products. A more compelling market case will emerge only once new contract business does a better job of supporting the lofty expectations. That is the yardstick for the company's next round of disclosures.
