The arithmetic is hard to ignore. Palantir Technologies posted a Rule of 40 score of 145 percent in the first quarter — a figure that would make most software executives blush — yet its share price has shed roughly a third of its value since January. When the company reports second-quarter results after the US market close today, investors will be voting on a singular question: whether triple-digit fundamental growth can arrest a slide that has now persisted for months.

Options markets are bracing for a swing of 10 to 12 percent on the print, a reflection of just how much hangs on tonight's numbers.

A Widening Chasm Between Operations and Price

The disconnect between Palantir's operating engine and its market valuation has rarely been starker. US revenue expanded 104 percent year over year in the first quarter to $1.28 billion, with commercial clients in the country growing 133 percent and government contracts up 84 percent. Total revenue for Q1 reached $1.63 billion, an 85 percent jump that marked the eleventh consecutive quarter of accelerating growth. Earnings per share came in at $0.33, comfortably ahead of the $0.27 analysts had penciled in.

For the current quarter, management has guided to revenue between $1.797 billion and $1.801 billion — roughly 80 percent growth — against a consensus EPS estimate of about $0.34. Customer numbers climbed 31 percent year over year to 1,007, while revenue from the twenty largest clients rose 55 percent to $108 million.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Palantir?

Yet the stock closed Friday at €106.82, down 32.01 percent for the year and 40.65 percent below its 52-week high of €179.98, reached on November 3, 2025. The shares now trade 18 percent beneath their 200-day moving average of €130.37, with even the nearer 50-day line at €113.52 out of reach. A relative strength index of 43.5 suggests the selling pressure hasn't yet exhausted itself — oversold territory remains untested.

The Bull and Bear Case, Side by Side

Wall Street's professional class remains strikingly optimistic despite the rout. The average analyst price target sits at €157.93, implying upside of nearly 48 percent from Friday's close. Fifteen analysts rate the stock a buy, four say hold, and two recommend selling. Targets range from RBC Capital's cautious $90 — its analysts question whether growth can hold up against mounting competition from OpenAI and Anthropic in the AI software arena — to Baird's and Oppenheimer's $200, with DA Davidson in between at $175.

The market capitalization of roughly €255.72 billion now hinges on whether Palantir can convince skeptics that its commercial expansion — not just government work — justifies a premium multiple. Short sellers have attacked that valuation all year. Cleveland Research, meanwhile, has warned of a potential softening in commercial spending.

CEO Alex Karp has met the skepticism head-on, arguing the company's results surpass any software firm in history. The company has also been pressing policymakers not to restrict open AI models. Operationally, there have been bright spots: the US Army selected Palantir's Foundry platform for its NGC2 program in July, and a partnership with Nvidia targets sovereign AI infrastructure. But a contract from the Defense Intelligence Agency was withdrawn following a protest.

European Headwinds Intensify

While the US business accelerates, Palantir's reception across the Atlantic is souring. Germany and France are reportedly evaluating alternatives such as ChapsVision, Baden-WĂĽrttemberg's Green party opposes the software's deployment, and London's mayor blocked a $67 million police contract. A German firm called Orcrist is positioning its "Sentinel" platform as a European substitute for Palantir in security applications.

Palantir at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

The Real Test Tonight

The central drama of tonight's report may be the industrialization of AIP, Palantir's AI platform. Once viewed primarily as a defense contractor wearing a software disguise, the company now sees its US commercial business growing at triple-digit rates. Whether that segment becomes the group's largest revenue driver in 2026 is a question that could determine the stock's direction — and whether it tests the 52-week low of €93.30 or begins climbing back toward the analyst consensus.

A simple beat-and-raise may no longer suffice. What investors want is evidence that today's extraordinary growth rates represent a durable new normal rather than a peak. The annualized 30-day volatility of roughly 53 percent underscores how much expectation is priced into tonight's reaction.

The answer arrives with the closing bell in New York — and it will show whether the market views Palantir as a growth bargain or a valuation bubble still leaking air.
