PepsiCo's Insider Filings and a Taco Bell Extension Can't Mask a Trimmed Profit Outlook
Published on 10/26/2026 at 15:52 | Editorial boerse-global.dePepsiCo closed Friday's session down 2.0%, a slide that coincided with a mandatory SEC disclosure revealing that chairman and chief executive Ramon Laguarta had offloaded 30,000 shares two days earlier. The filing landed the same day the snack-and-beverage giant was digesting a fresh round of bad news on the earnings front — and a piece of good news on the fountain side.
That good news came Thursday, when PepsiCo and Taco Bell rolled their U.S. drinks partnership forward by eleven years, extending the tie-up through 2036. Participating Taco Bell, Taco Bell Cantina and Live Más Cafe locations fall under the agreement, according to PepsiCo. The relationship stretches beyond American borders too: the company remains Taco Bell's beverage partner in Canada, the U.K., Ireland and Thailand.
Guidance Takes a Haircut
The more consequential development for investors arrived on October 8, when PepsiCo paired its third-quarter 2026 results with a downgrade to its full-year profit forecast. Management now expects adjusted earnings per share to grow 1% to 2% in constant currency for the full year, a sharp step down from the 4% to 6% range it had previously targeted — and specifically from the bottom end of that band. Organic revenue growth is penciled in at roughly 3%.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying PepsiCo?
Executives attributed the reset to North American growth and margin recovery taking longer than anticipated.
Barclays Trims Its Target
Wall Street moved quickly. Barclays analyst Lauren Lieberman cut her price target on PepsiCo to $126 from $133 on October 12, according to media reports, while keeping her "Equal-Weight" rating intact. The lower target therefore reflected recalibrated expectations rather than any change in conviction on the stock.
A Boardroom Buy, Structured Through Trusts
Two days after Lieberman's note, Robert Pohlad acquired 184,646 PepsiCo shares through transactions involving irrevocable trusts he established, at a stated price of $128.28 apiece. A footnote in the SEC filing clarifies the mechanics: the shares changed hands in exchange for assets of equal value, making the purchase an asset substitution carried out within the trust transactions rather than an open-market buy.
Knoxville Plant Shut Immediately
Rounding out a busy stretch, PepsiCo Beverages U.S. announced on October 19 the immediate closure of its bottling facility in Knoxville, Tennessee. Media reports put the headcount affected at 112 employees. The company said those workers will continue to receive pay and benefits through January 1, 2027, and that it is working to place them at nearby sites. Local sales and delivery teams will keep serving the area, according to PepsiCo.
