PNE shareholders are confronting a pair of developments that pull in opposite directions — one signaling eroding confidence from an institutional holder, the other revealing a substantial build-up of exposure by a major investment bank. Both surface just weeks before the wind developer's third-quarter update, scheduled for 12 November 2026.

Union Investment Management disclosed on 20 October that its attributable voting rights in PNE had fallen to 2.96%, down from 4.83%. The mandatory notification, which pegged the threshold breach to 19 October, marks a meaningful retreat by the asset manager.

Morgan Stanley moved the other way. In a filing dated 15 October, the bank reported that its combined stake of voting rights and instruments climbed to 52.15%, up from 50.07%. The disclosure attributed the threshold crossing to the acquisition of client securities over which Morgan Stanley & Co. International plc holds a usage right — a position that explicitly bundles voting rights with instruments rather than reflecting a straightforward equity purchase.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying PNE?

Guidance Cut Sets the Tone

The ownership shifts come against the backdrop of a profit warning that has forced sell-side analysts back to their models. PNE trimmed its 2026 EBITDA forecast on 13 October to a range of EUR 60–75 million, a steep reduction from the prior EUR 90–120 million. Normalized EBITDA is now guided at EUR 65–80 million. Management pointed to drawn-out project sales and permitting delays, compounded by a decision to retain more of its own wind farms than originally planned. Contributions from divestitures that slipped will partly land in 2027 rather than the current year.

First Berlin Equity Research was quick to respond, cutting its price target to EUR 8.30 from EUR 10.00 while keeping its "Buy" rating. Analyst Karsten von Blumenthal cited the reduced company outlook and project deferrals into the coming year, and also flagged the higher interest rate environment as a factor behind the revision.

MPCM Takes a Sharper Axe to Estimates

MPCM followed on 20 October with a more aggressive recalibration, slashing its price target to EUR 7.60 from EUR 12.00 — a cut of nearly 37% — though it too maintained a buy recommendation after reworking its valuation model. Analyst Philipp Kaiser trimmed his 2027 EBITDA projection by 25%, citing a more cautious read on the business trajectory. The adjustment therefore hit not only the valuation multiple but also the expected operating result for next year.

The clustering of revisions leaves PNE trading under a cloud of lowered expectations on both the earnings and price-target fronts, even as the analyst community stops short of abandoning its constructive stance. With the Q3 statement due in less than a month, investors will be watching for any sign that the delayed project sales and permitting bottlenecks are beginning to clear — or that the 2027 recovery embedded in current models needs further trimming.
