Primary Hydrogen's Summer Overhaul Puts a Two-Province Bet to the Test
Published on 09/03/2026 at 15:02 | Editorial boerse-global.deThe junior explorer that spent the summer blanketing Nova Scotia in claims and reshuffling its C-suite now faces the moment of truth that defines every pre-revenue miner: converting paper acreage into geological proof.
Primary Hydrogen's shares have been on a remarkable tear, with the stock trading at EUR 1.17 — a 59 percent gain over the past 30 days and a full 42 percent above its 50-day moving average of EUR 0.8221. Yet the same momentum that carried the equity to a 52-week high of EUR 1.59 on August 31 has shown signs of fraying, with the shares shedding 11 percent over the past week and sitting 26 percent below that peak. The annualized volatility reading of roughly 149-155 percent tells the story of a market hanging on every press release.
A Management Reset Mid-Expansion
The corporate shake-up came first. David Jackson assumed the roles of President and Chief Executive Officer on July 20, succeeding Benjamin Asuncion, who stepped down from the top job but remains on the board as a director. Barely two weeks later, the company brought Christopher Longton aboard as Vice President of Exploration — a pairing that signals a push toward operational professionalism just as the company accelerates its land acquisition program.
That leadership transition was enabled by a financing completed in early July. Primary Hydrogen closed an unbrokered private placement under Canada's Listed Issuer Financing Exemption, issuing 2,459,570 units at CAD 0.60 each for gross proceeds of approximately CAD 1,475,742. The final tally came in well below the originally planned 4.2 million units, but the injection provided the runway for what followed.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying PRIMARY HYDROGEN?
Building a Hydrogen Land Position in Nova Scotia
The capital deployment has been swift and strategic. On August 17, the company staked the Northumberland project in Nova Scotia's Cumberland Basin. Two weeks later, on August 31, it added the Wallace project — four exploration licenses containing 68 claims across roughly 1,101 hectares. Combined, the company now controls six licenses with 140 claims spanning about 2,267 hectares in the basin, a region where it is deliberately concentrating on natural hydrogen rather than scattering its efforts across isolated parcels.
The neighborhood adds context to the land grab. According to a report in The Globe and Mail, Northumberland sits adjacent to a license block tied to a partnership between Kavenex Energy and Koloma Inc. — the latter having raised more than USD 400 million from investors including Breakthrough Energy Ventures, Khosla Ventures, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, and United Airlines. That institutional firepower in the immediate vicinity lends the region a credibility that a junior explorer alone could not manufacture.
The Second Track: Rare Earths in British Columbia
Nova Scotia is not the only front. On August 10, Primary Hydrogen announced a fully funded and permitted work program at its Wicheena North rare earths project in British Columbia, where the company is preparing its first-ever drill campaign. Roughly 1,500 meters of drilling are slated for autumn, a program that will test whether the company's expansive claim portfolio can yield the kind of geological results that justify the market's enthusiasm.
The company has also committed to keeping the story in front of investors. In July, it signed a marketing agreement with digital agency Nordcore Media LLC worth USD 300,000, structured over a six-month term or until the budget is fully deployed — an arrangement that helps explain the outsized share price reactions to each successive announcement.
From Claims to Core Samples
For all the momentum, the disconnect between news flow and operational maturity remains stark. Automated valuation models have struck a cautious tone, pointing to the company's strained financial position and absence of revenue — an unsurprising assessment for a pre-revenue explorer, but one that underscores how much of the current valuation rests on optionality rather than evidence.
The question now is whether Jackson's leadership can pivot the company from aggressive staking to substantive exploration. With Longton in place as exploration chief and a funded drill program at Wicheena North ready to go, the autumn months will provide the first real indication of whether Primary Hydrogen's two-province strategy can deliver something more tangible than a growing map of claims. For a stock that has already priced in considerable optimism, the drill bit — not the press release — will ultimately determine whether the rally has staying power.
