Renk Balances Fresh Orders Against a Trimmed Outlook as Analysts Hold Their Ground

Renk's order book keeps filling up, but the market is in no mood to celebrate. Shares slipped 2.3% on Friday as investors weighed a pair of fresh contract wins against a downgraded full-year forecast and the agreed sale of the company's plain bearings division — a combination the Financial Times flagged as a drag on sentiment.

The contracts themselves are substantial. On 14 October, Renk disclosed an expansion of its deal with KNDS Deutschland covering gearboxes for the Leopard 2 tank, with media reports putting the added volume at roughly EUR 130 million. Eight days earlier, Patria had reportedly ordered additional gearboxes for its TRACKX vehicle family, a contract worth EUR 30 million.

Those wins give the bulls something concrete to point to, yet they leave the central question unanswered: how quickly those orders convert into earnings. Order intake and full-year profit are separate measures, and the recent analyst revisions turn on precisely that distinction.

Price Targets Cut, Ratings Intact

JPMorgan trimmed its target to EUR 50 from EUR 62 on Wednesday while keeping an "Overweight" rating, citing a slower ramp-up of German armored-vehicle programs and a dimmer outlook for Renk's industrial business. The DZ Bank followed on Friday, lowering its fair value to EUR 56 from EUR 64 but maintaining its "Buy" call. Analyst Holger Schmidt aligned his estimates with the announced divestments and acquisitions.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Renk Group?

Both houses pulled back their valuation marks without abandoning their fundamentally positive stance — a nuance worth noting. A lower fair value signals a more cautious yardstick, not a negative verdict on the business. JPMorgan's David H. Perry, for his part, gave the bearings sale a favorable read, lending continued support to the strategic direction even as the numbers came down.

What the Miba Deal Changes

Renk agreed on Thursday to sell its plain bearings operations to Miba, a transaction still subject to regulatory approval. That caveat matters: the agreement marks a strategic step, not a completed deal. Alongside it, the company issued revised guidance for its continuing operations — around EUR 1.4 billion in revenue for 2026 and adjusted EBIT of between EUR 240 million and EUR 255 million.

Those figures are the real test. They set the benchmark against which the reshaped portfolio will be judged, and they should not be mistaken for results already in hand. After a change in a company's business mix, a new baseline offers orientation but proves nothing on its own about improved performance.

The 5 November release of the nine-month 2026 quarterly statement, paired with a conference call, will give the first scheduled opportunity to measure operating progress against that revised target. That date carries more weight than any single upbeat trading session.

For now, the strategic overhaul deserves a fair hearing rather than blanket suspicion. The buy ratings support that view; the lower price targets counsel patience in equal measure. The direction may convince — but Renk will have to earn durable confidence with hard numbers.
