Renk Balances Maritime Showcase Against a Split Analyst Scorecard

Renk heads to Euronaval with its naval portfolio, then reports nine-month results on November 5 as analysts split on orders versus operating profit.

Renk has two dates circled on the calendar, and they pull in opposite directions. On November 3, the defence supplier opens its stand at Euronaval in Paris, where the maritime portfolio takes centre stage through November 6. Two days later, on November 5, 2026, it releases its nine-month report, complete with a conference call. One event sells the story; the other grades it.

The Euronaval announcement, made on a Thursday, leans on a Saab order for a submarine programme run by a NATO member state. That contract has already been reported, so the Paris appearance gives it a stage rather than adding fresh revenue. Renk is careful to frame the show as a showcase for its naval offering — a distinction that matters, since a trade fair generates visibility while a signed order generates turnover. Nothing in the notice points to new business.

What the order book already holds

Context for the naval push comes from two weeks earlier, when KNDS Deutschland expanded its order for Leopard 2 gearboxes, controls and gear selector switches. The package is worth roughly €130 million, with deliveries scheduled between 2029 and 2032. That timeline says plenty about the nature of the work: it is a long-cycle commitment, not a contribution to the current financial year.

A week or so before that, Renk signed a binding agreement to sell its plain bearing business to Miba. The deal still hinges on regulatory clearances, so it is a contract in hand rather than a completed divestment. Once the unit is carved out, Renk trimmed its guidance for the continuing operations in 2026 to around €1.4 billion in revenue and €240 million to €255 million in adjusted EBIT.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Renk Group?

Two analysts, two directions

Ahead of the November 5 release, the sell-side is not speaking with one voice. Christian Cohrs of MPCM, writing on October 23, projected order intake 9% above the consensus estimate — but put adjusted EBIT 6% below it. MPCM kept its "Buy" rating and a €63 price target, so the call rests on demand rather than near-term profitability. A beat on orders, in other words, would not automatically translate into a beat on operating profit.

DZ Bank reached a similar conclusion by a different route. Also on October 23, Holger Schmidt cut his fair value to €56 from €64 while holding the "Kaufen" rating. His revisions reflect the announced acquisitions and disposals, meaning the lower number signals recalibration rather than a change of heart. A buy recommendation and reduced expectations, it turns out, can sit comfortably side by side.

The reporting base shifts under investors' feet

From the fourth quarter of 2026, the plain bearing unit will be booked as a discontinued operation. Renk's civil Marine & Industry business stays outside the transaction and is unaffected. That accounting change reshapes the yardstick against which the nine-month figures will be read — the guidance now describes a slimmer company, and the Miba agreement, while binding, is not yet a closed sale.

Renk Group at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

For investors, the layers need separating. Euronaval is about presenting the product range, with the Saab submarine work as backdrop. The KNDS extension belongs to the long-term delivery book. The revised forecast applies to the continuing business after the carve-out. When the numbers land on November 5, the test will be broader than order momentum alone: operating profit against expectations and management's handling of the new guidance base will carry equal weight. Only the combination of order dynamics, earnings power and the portfolio overhaul gives a full reading.
