Renk Completes UK Submarine Drive Takeover as Italian Tank Transmission Study Advances
Published on 11/08/2026 at 14:21 | Editorial boerse-global.deRenk has closed its acquisition of David Brown Defence from Stellex Capital Management, securing an order book and pipeline together worth more than GBP 700 million. The deal, finalised on 2 November once all regulatory approvals were in hand, covers existing contracts plus prospective business across the 2026 to 2030 window, according to the company.
The acquired operation, which employs roughly 530 people, will trade as RENK UK Huddersfield and is earmarked as Renk's centre of excellence for submarine propulsion systems. Its role is squarely focused on deepening that capability.
Gearbox Technology Eyed for Italian Programme
On the armoured-vehicle side, Renk said on 30 October that it is also weighing a possible application of its HSWL 406 transmission in Italy's Nuovo Carro Armato programme, which is run by Leonardo Rheinmetall Military Vehicles. The gearbox is designed for future heavy tracked vehicles. Renk described the Italian angle as an option under review rather than a confirmed order, while noting it is pursuing openings in international procurement programmes more broadly.
The naval business brought fresh business too. Ahead of its Euronaval appearance in Paris — scheduled for 3 to 6 November — Renk flagged an order from Saab tied to a submarine programme run by a NATO member state, with Saab as the customer.

Nine-Month Orders Up a Third
Figures released with the quarterly results put order intake for the first nine months of 2026 at EUR 1.66 billion, a rise of 33.6%. The order backlog stood at EUR 7.6 billion as of 30 September 2026 — a snapshot at that date, distinct from the David Brown figure, which also folds in future pipeline.
Revenue for the period advanced 5.8% to EUR 982.0 million, while adjusted EBIT came in at EUR 158.8 million, up 12.7%. For the continuing operations, Renk reiterated its full-year revenue guidance of around EUR 1.4 billion and continues to expect adjusted EBIT of between EUR 240 million and EUR 255 million.
Execution Risk Flagged
Chief executive Alexander Sagel used the results presentation to caution that revenue conversion could slip if major defence contractors push back delivery schedules, Reuters reported. Renk itself, however, sees no constraints on production or shipments.
