Renk is broadening its naval propulsion business into medium and large unmanned surface vessels, a move reported by Hartpunkt on Wednesday, just ahead of the Euronaval trade fair running in Paris from 3 to 6 November 2026. The push extends the group's existing combat-ship gearbox work into new applications — but it arrives alongside a reshaped corporate structure and a set of more cautious profit assumptions from the sell side, leaving investors to weigh strategic ambition against near-term earnings reality.

The maritime expansion is not a blank-slate promise. Renk can already point to two disclosed naval projects spanning both crewed and uncrewed platforms: a Saab order for three Stirling power generation systems destined for a submarine programme run by a NATO member state, and a drivetrain package for an unmanned surface vessel programme, also for a NATO country. Together they show the company covering submarine power supply as well as integrated propulsion for drone boats — a tangible footing for the naval strategy, though neither contract comes with a disclosed earnings contribution.

A Smaller Group, a Redrawn Guidance Base

Separately, Renk agreed roughly a week ago — through its wholly owned subsidiary RENK GmbH — to sell its plain bearing business to Miba. The binding contract remains subject to customary regulatory approvals, so signature and completion are still two distinct events. Miba puts the unit at about 500 employees across five plant sites and roughly EUR 130 million in annual revenue, a scale that explains why the split between continuing and discontinued operations matters so much for how the group's performance will be read.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Renk Group?

From the fourth quarter of 2026, the plain bearing activities will be reported as a discontinued operation. For the continuing businesses, Renk updated its annual outlook to around EUR 1.4 billion in revenue and adjusted EBIT of EUR 240–255 million. That guidance describes the company without the divestment candidate and should not be read in isolation from the restructuring — nor should the naval orders be translated directly into a higher profit forecast. The naval build-out also fits a wider tilt toward defence, with Renk narrowing its portfolio outside that core.

JPMorgan Trims Its Numbers, Not Its Rating

The counterweight came on 21 October, when JPMorgan cut its price target to EUR 50 from EUR 62 while keeping an "Overweight" rating, according to dpa-AFX. Analyst David H. Perry cited lower earnings forecasts for 2027–2030, a slower ramp-up of German armoured vehicle programmes and weaker industrial prospects. The bank thus paired a positive investment call with more restrained operating expectations — a combination that limits how much any single growth initiative can say about the valuation of the group as a whole.

What follows is a test of execution rather than of announcements. Renk publishes its nine-month report and holds a conference call on 5 November 2026, when the focus will fall on operating performance on the new corporate base — revenue and earnings from the continuing activities — not merely on the enlarged naval addressable market.
