Renk Rewires Its Portfolio: One Deal Closed, One Still Waiting, and a Forecast That Hinges on Both

Renk has spent the past few weeks redrawing the boundaries of its business, and the two moves at the centre of that effort sit at very different stages. The acquisition of David Brown Defence from Stellex Capital Management closed at the start of this week, with the site now trading as RENK UK Huddersfield and serving as a competence centre for submarine propulsion systems. The sale of the plain bearing division to Miba AG, agreed roughly two weeks ago, is still waiting on regulatory clearances. Investors who treat the two as a single restructuring story risk missing that one is done and the other is not.

That distinction matters because Renk has attached its 2026 guidance to the reshaped group. The company expects revenue of around EUR 1.4 billion and adjusted EBIT of EUR 240 million to EUR 255 million, both figures covering continuing operations only. From the fourth quarter of 2026, the plain bearing business will be reported as a discontinued operation, so growth and earnings will have to be measured on the new basis rather than against the old footprint. The sale price for that division was not disclosed.

An order book, a pipeline, and the gap between them

The UK purchase brings with it an order backlog and pipeline that Renk puts at more than GBP 700 million for the 2026 to 2030 period. That number is a combination of firm orders and prospective work, not a signed book alone, and should be read accordingly. A separate contract landed about a week ago, when RENK Magnet-Motor received an order from Saab for three Stirling power generation systems destined for a submarine programme run by a NATO member state. Renk described it as the third major order within that collaboration.

Those naval wins give the Huddersfield acquisition a concrete role inside the group rather than leaving it as a standalone asset. They do not, however, settle the question of timing. New capabilities and potential applications do not guarantee that programmes ramp up on schedule, and a long-term market opportunity is not a substitute for near-term earnings.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Renk Group?

JPMorgan trims its target but keeps its rating

That timing risk is precisely what JPMorgan flagged about two weeks ago, according to media reports, when it cut its price target on Renk from EUR 62 to EUR 50 while leaving the stock at "Overweight." The broker pointed to a slower-than-expected ramp-up in German armoured vehicle programmes, compounded by weaker prospects in the industrial business. The move was a recalibration rather than a retreat from the bullish case, but it illustrated how heavily the expected pace of execution weighs on valuation.

Neither portfolio measure removes that exposure. The plain bearing sale has yet to complete, and the pipeline attached to the British business cannot be equated with secured revenue. Both considerations argue against a hasty re-rating.

What the nine-month report has to prove

The next hard data point is the quarterly statement for the first nine months of 2026, accompanied by a conference call and webcast. Adjusted earnings will be the focus. A confirmation of the guidance would carry more weight if Renk also explains how the continuing operations are actually developing, since a change in reporting scope on its own says nothing about improved profitability. Revenue and earnings targets belong together: a growing top line would persuade less if it came without a correspondingly solid result.

Renk Group at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

If the operating trend holds up the guidance, the positive case for the reorganisation stays intact, and the defence build-out can be read as an addition to a dependable earnings base. If expectations for key programme ramp-ups slip instead, the quality of those earnings comes under pressure, and further project announcements alone would not dispel the doubt. The nine-month figures will show whether Renk's new setup already carries financial weight or remains, for now, chiefly a strategic prospect.
