Renk's Miba Exit Resets the 2026 Base Case as Analysts Trim Targets but Keep Buy Calls
Published on 10/27/2026 at 06:51 | Editorial boerse-global.deRenk Group heads into its third-quarter report with a reshaped portfolio, a freshly recalibrated guidance base and two institutional shareholders that have just disclosed smaller aggregate positions. The Augsburg-based gearbox manufacturer has agreed to sell its plain bearings business to Austria's Miba, a deal announced last Thursday that will redraw the company's revenue perimeter from the fourth quarter onward.
The transaction carries a purchase price in the lower to middle three-digit million-euro range, according to company statements cited by dpa. It remains subject to regulatory approvals — a binding contract is in place, but the deal has not yet closed. From the fourth quarter of 2026, the bearings unit will be reported as a discontinued operation under IFRS 5.
A New Yardstick for 2026
Renk's updated full-year outlook, issued about a week ago, applies to continuing operations only. On that basis, management is targeting revenue of roughly EUR 1.4 billion for 2026 and adjusted EBIT of between EUR 240 million and EUR 255 million.
Whether the remaining gearbox business can defend that profitability corridor without added friction is now the central question for investors. The divestment removes a predictable slice of revenue but is meant to free up capital for the priority activities. A changed scope of consolidation should not be read automatically as an operating deterioration — nor does the agreed sale by itself prove an improvement. Keeping the transaction and the running business apart is the more convincing approach.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Renk Group?
Two Filings, Limited Signal
Position disclosures from BlackRock and UBS have added to the flow of headlines. BlackRock's notification, published yesterday, showed its aggregate share falling from 4.13% to 4.05%, with the threshold contact dated Wednesday. UBS reported on Friday a decline to 4.71% from 5.06%, with the bulk of the reported position — 4.34% — held through financial instruments.
Both filings distinguish between voting rights and instruments, which makes it misguided to read the change in aggregate share as a straightforward sale of stock. No shared strategy between the two houses, and no motive for the shifts, can be derived from the notices. Treating them as a clear vote of no confidence in Renk puts more into the numbers than they contain.
Price Action and the Analyst View
The stock rose 2.0% to EUR 36.80 on Monday, though it remains sharply below where it started the year after a 32% decline since January. Against that backdrop, the DZ Bank cut its fair value for the shares on Friday to EUR 56 from EUR 64, while sticking with its buy recommendation. Both that target and the reduced marks from other houses sit well above the current quotation — potential tailwind if execution holds.
A focused supplier of defense applications and demanding drive technology could command a valuation premium over diversified conglomerates, provided the targeted margin in the core business can be secured. The flip side: if supply chains snag during the internal restructuring, or the handover of the divested unit drags on, fourth-quarter margins could suffer. Missing the bottom end of the EUR 240 million adjusted EBIT range would noticeably dent market confidence.
Defense Demand Cuts Both Ways
A further risk sits in the order pipeline. With bearings gone, the group's fortunes hinge even more heavily on the timely execution of military procurement programs, and slower awarding of state defense contracts would hit the remaining business undiluted. Should customers postpone deliveries, the trimmed valuation targets could themselves come under pressure.
Renk Group at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.
For the near term, much depends on confirmation of operating trends. As long as the stock defends its recent interim low and the adjusted guidance for the full year stays intact, the odds favor consolidation after the losses of previous months. If confidence in reaching the adjusted EBIT range cracks, a slide back toward the year's lows becomes the risk.
November 5 Is the Real Test
The next concrete catalyst is already scheduled: on November 5, 2026, Renk Group publishes its results for the third quarter of 2026. That interim report will provide the first reliable evidence of how robust the continuing operations are ahead of the final separation — a far more meaningful checkpoint than the latest position filings. The lower aggregate stakes held by BlackRock and UBS do not, on their own, support a negative investment case; by the same token, a positive one needs more than hope for benefits from the agreed sale. Earnings delivery and guidance achievement should tip the scales — not the overinterpretation of voting-rights notices.
