Renk's Two-Speed Portfolio Shift: A Closed UK Acquisition, a Pending Bearing Sale and a 2026 Forecast That Depends on Both

Renk is reshaping its business along two tracks that are moving at very different speeds. The acquisition of David Brown Defence from Stellex Capital Management has been completed and is already being folded into the group. The sale of the plain bearings division to Miba AG, agreed roughly two weeks ago, is still waiting on regulatory approvals. Investors who treat the two transactions as a single restructuring step risk misreading where Renk actually stands.

The completed UK deal, closed at the start of this week, brings submarine propulsion expertise into the fold. The acquired business now trades as RENK UK Huddersfield and is intended to serve as a competence centre for submarine drive systems. According to the company, David Brown Defence contributes an order backlog and pipeline worth more than GBP 700 million for the 2026 to 2030 period. That figure bundles backlog and pipeline together, so it should not be read as fully booked, firm orders.

A Saab Order Adds Operational Substance

The naval push is not limited to the acquisition. Through its Magnet-Motor subsidiary, Renk also cooperates with Saab on power generation systems for submarines. Just over a week ago, the company reported an order from Saab for three Stirling power generation systems destined for a submarine programme run by a NATO member state. Renk described it as the third major order within that collaboration.

That contract gives the strategic repositioning some tangible backing, though it does not alter how each individual transaction should be assessed. The acquisition is done; the divisional sale is not.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Renk Group?

What the Bearing Sale Does — and Does Not — Touch

The planned divestment to Miba explicitly excludes the civil Marine & Industry business. That boundary matters. Selling one unit while expanding military applications amounts to a sharper focus, not a wholesale retreat from civil activities. The distinction between a completed purchase and a pending disposal, rather than the number of deals on the table, is what frames the story.

Renk also confirmed that the plain bearings business will be reported as discontinued operations from the fourth quarter onward. That planned presentation carries as much weight for how the forecast should be read as the still-outstanding closing of the sale.

Reading the 2026 Guidance Correctly

Alongside the sale agreement, Renk adjusted its outlook for 2026: revenue of around EUR 1.4 billion and adjusted EBIT of EUR 240 million to EUR 255 million. These are expectations, not results already achieved. A changed portfolio structure is not merely a question of business volume — it also shapes the earnings power investors can expect.

The strategic logic runs through Huddersfield, where the competence centre is being built, and through the Saab cooperation, both of which underline the marine focus. What ultimately matters for valuation is how the reshaped setup translates into revenue and profit. Until then, the gap between backlog and pipeline on one side, and between signed and closed transactions on the other, remains the key test of Renk's repositioning.
