Rheinmetall Hands Over First Caracal Vehicles as Telford Gun Plant and Mangalia Yard Reshape Its Industrial Map
Published on 10/30/2026 at 18:01 | Editorial boerse-global.deRheinmetall has delivered the first series-production Caracal airborne vehicles to the German and Dutch armed forces, with the handover ceremony held yesterday in Ede and announced by the company today. The contract covers more than 1,500 vehicles scheduled for delivery through 2030, alongside full life-cycle support running for 20 years. The handover marks the start of serial deliveries to both militaries.
Separately, Rheinmetall Air Defence and Silvus Technologies said they plan to integrate passive RFeye high-frequency sensors into the Skynex air-defence system and the Skymaster command-and-control platform. Because the sensors detect threats without emitting signals of their own, the integration touches both the air-defence layer and the command architecture behind it.
Telford Plant Adds Barrel Capacity
Rheinmetall Defence UK opened its UK Gun Hall in Telford on 22 October, a facility with 11,500 square metres of production floor. At full utilisation it can turn out up to 245 barrels a year across the two calibres built there, plus capacity for more than 50 breeches annually. The plant produces large-calibre gun barrels and breeches, including systems in the 120 and 155 millimetre calibres.
On the naval side, Rheinmetall and Swiss-based Mediterranean Shipping Company won the auction for Romania's Mangalia shipyard, with the purchase price put at EUR 138 million. The two sources date the award to 19 and 20 October respectively; the deal was expected to close a few weeks later, and the site is to be developed for both civilian and military shipbuilding.

Schakal Order Feeds the Backlog
A further boost to the order book comes from OCCAR's order for additional Schakal wheeled armoured vehicles at Artec, the joint venture of Rheinmetall and KNDS Deutschland. The contract covers 69 vehicles, 35 of them for the Bundeswehr and the remaining 34 for the Dutch armed forces. Rheinmetall put its share of the order value at a mid-three-digit million-euro amount, with deliveries scheduled between May 2032 and November 2033.
In Lithuania, media reports say the environmental authority approved the environmental impact assessment for the planned ammunition plant in the Radviliškis district. The authority concluded that no significant environmental effects are expected from the project, which is being pursued by Rheinmetall Defence Lietuva and Epso-G Invest.
Analyst Target Trimmed, Rating Held
Deutsche Bank Research lowered its price target on Rheinmetall while keeping its "Buy" rating, so the recommendation remains to buy despite the cut. Reuters, citing Italian newspaper MF, also reported two army contracts worth a combined USD 4.16 billion at the Leonardo Rheinmetall Military Vehicles joint venture. The award was not officially confirmed and Rheinmetall did not comment on the report.
